Romney Claims He Will Slash Funding For Electric Cars If Elected

If that happens say bye bye Volt and Leaf. No one will pay that kind of money to be green.

The problem is these are $35k to $45k solutions, when all these people want is a $14K Prius.

May be we should stop funding the wars and take the money and invest in alternative energy and not the same old same old. I am tired to give away all my money to oil companies. Make geo thermal cheaper, make wind and solar more efficient. Instead of saying flushing money down the green toilet, I would love to see what your plans are...if you have any.

Interesting that car guys would want to stop advancement in cars. People tout Mitt Romney as a businessman, but in this case he's stifling business. Not only are the big guys trying to produce electric and hybrid cars, small businesses are trying to create innovation in the automotive industry too. This is what Romney will do for business. In this case he isn't even supporting big business. I'm not endorsing a candidate but I will say this ... If he will not even support the big business community that he claims to believe in, what will he do to the average joe who he can't even relate to?

Can you imagine the Toyota people listening to the pundits about hybrid technology 10 - 15 years ago and kill it because there was no market and the price of the hybrid car would be higher than the comparable gas models from other manufacturers? If hybrid technology is so illogical financially, then why are all manufacturers introducing hybrid in many of their models now? I would pose the same question to Mitt Romney now in terms of the electric and alternative energy debate. But I guess Mitt Romney is a better businessman than those Toyota buffoons isn't he?

With all of the East Coast refineries being out of commission for a while due to the storm Sandy gas prices are going to spike. What we learned from this campaign is that Romney likes to shoot himself in the foot all too often. How can the country trust him with the presidency?

Electric cars are NOT a viable alternative to conventional powered vehicles at this time. Romney is completely correct.

In years to come, maybe technology will be developed that will make electric cars possible but the time is not now. Also, technology must be developed to properly treat the millions of tons of dead batteries being created by failed electric cars like the revolting Volt.

Romney is just clueless. These companies are doing energy science and research in order to get their products to market. It's the same as when the government gives contracts to private defense companies to produce an advanced product for the military. They must do scientific research and development in order to deliver the government what it requires. A key difference here, of course, is these energy companies are only getting government-backed loans, not contracts. And, I wish the Republicans would get off this "North American energy independence" kick. Wake up folks, it is a completely bogus notion. Oil and gas are global commodities and are sold on the world market at the highest price. Not much has been said about this, but the Democrats in Congress tried to add an amendment to Keystone XL pipeline legislation that would require the oil produced in that pipeline be kept in the U.S. and the Republicans voted it down. So much for energy independence.

If the few of us true enthusiasts want to continue to enjoy internal combustion engines we need alternative energy to sell to the non-enthusiasts so we don't use up all of the fossil fuel/oil and never get to enjoy real cars again.

Talk to an EV driver and you will see that the future of the automobile is quite clear - its a change'n - customers love the EV technology, the cars drive better, they are quieter, and fuel is cheaper. Our kids will not be stuck with the paradigm's thrown down here.
Also, you can now lease a Leaf or Volt or Focus electric for about $200/mo. the cost premium is gone.
