One of the few lightweight cars to offer RWD and a mid-engined configuration was the original Honda Beat. With its naturally ventilated 3 cylinder powerplant the Beat produced 64PS and immediately became the favourite among lightweight car fans.
It was recently announced by Best Car Japan that a new Honda Beat is on its way although it will be mechanically distinct from the original model. It will still utilize the same 660cc powerplant and driveline from other lightweight models from Honda’s present lineup such as the Life, Zest and Zest Spark. The new version will have its engine in the front driving the front wheels. Since it is based on the Life/Zest platform there is likelihood that the new model could have 4WD. There is no date for the sale of the latest Beat even though its development is far under way and will hit the market in 2011.
