The Mercedes-AMG GLC43 was one of my favorite vehicles at the 2016 New York Auto Show (NYIAS). Everything about it looked "right," the stance was perfect and, my, my the interior was top notch.

Oh, and the 360+ horsepower, bi-turbo six-cylinder engine sounds A OK to me.

But as with all things, that may not satiate some buyer's needs. They need MORE power. And, thankfully, Mercedes-AMG is more than happy to address this concern. Expected to make use of essentially the same motor that powers the GT S sports car, the GLC63 is rumored to be equipped with the bi-turbo V8 good for just over 500 ponies.

At this point we've heard the GLC63's rumbly V8 but not much else is known; however, it's a safe bet it will receive the same treatment as other Mercedes-AMG products. That means an even lower stance, a tighter suspension set up, AMG performance trim bits and seating, Alcantara here and there, a big brake kit and a quad-tipped exhaust.

The latest spy shots show a dark blue test vehicle. Its exterior is largely the GLC43; however, if you look at the front valence, you'll note that it is equipped with much larger air intakes to cool that mighty motor down.


...Insiders suspect the car will also get a longer bonnet than the regular GLC, to provide more space for the wet-sump twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that powers it.

Shared with models like the C 63 saloon, the engine is likely to produce up to 503bhp and 516lb ft of torque, as it does in other models...
