The power of the internet is unbelievable. Years ago automotive research and development was pretty black box, meaning we didn't know what was going on and there weren't a slew of photographs to see.

Now, things have changed in a BIG way. Spies roam far and wide, and YOU benefit because of it.

To the news. While the BMW M2 has been spotted abroad as well in the States, a couple elements remained largely undetermined. For any BMW fanatic that likes to row their own gears and is interested in the M2, it's been a waiting game trying to see if BMW will only offer the souped up 2-Series with a six-speed standard.

Well, the M2 was spotted lapping Laguna Seca and a curious mind got up close and personal to the car. This particular test vehicle had a dual-clutch 'box. Boys and girls, don't give up all hope. There's a chance BMW will offer a manual alongside a DCT transmission. Fingers crossed!

Next up, the seats. While it's clearly a test car undergoing quite a bit of development, we're thinking it's pretty damn close to the final iteration. Look at the body panels, front/rear valences and wheels. This puppy is nearly ready to ship! That said, the eagle-eyed spy noted the seats inside the vehicle were the same one-piece seat backs as seen on the all-new M3 and M4. That's great news as those are excellent buckets to cruise around in and take to the track should you feel the urge.

We'll be keeping an eye out for the latest as more news continues to break.
