When you think of Italian automobiles, likely you're first thought will be either a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Aside from the Fiat 500, right now in the U.S. there are not particularly low barrier of entry cars for sale.
Sure, the Alfa Romeo 4C can be had but you have to be into the whole not having a practical car thing to buy one.
It seems that may change in the future though. That's because these first spy shots of the planned Alfa Romeo Giulia have been circulating the web. Though this mule is equipped with a modified, — and seemingly shortened — Maserati Ghibli body, it's clear that the chassis is much different. Check out the much smaller wheel/tire package, different brakes and massive wheel gap.
And if you want to have a REAL laugh, scope out the interior featuring a mix up of Chrysler Group and Fiat parts. Personally, I love the Jeep steering wheel.
As of now the plans remain relatively unclear. From what we've heard there will be entry-level models as well as high-performance offerings slated to go up against the likes of the BMW M3, Mercedes-Benz C63, Audi RS4/5, etc. Though it can't be officially confirmed, we're thinking there will be a mix of four cylinder and six cylinder motors, and given the direction Maserati is going, probably a diesel in the pack.
Hang tight, there's a TON of speculation and little substance at the moment.
