Jeez, it only feels like yesterday there were rumors swirling about BMW's all-new special project dubbed "Project i." And today we have the stellar i8 and i3.
It's hard to believe but the Bavarians electric vehicles now account for 10 percent of total sales. Considering how conservative the brand use to be and how it dearly protected its values, it's a sign of the times.
Keeping that in mind, the i cars have been around for a bit of time, and the i3 just received a minor update. Now it will boast a slightly better range with a greater battery capacity. We've been awaiting word on what the i8 will get it's refresh and from the latest spy shots, it appears soon.
That's because a peculiar i8 was spotted abroad. Equipped with radial spoke wheels, an AP Racing big brake kit, new headlights and a new rear windscreen, we think this is a research and development car pointing to what's in store for the revised i8.
As of now there hasn't been any time frame or indication of when an updated i8 will appear though we reckon it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for a Pebble Beach — in August — or Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) debut — in September.
An even better question: So, when will see the drop top i8?
