Although I recently brought forward all-new images of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class undergoing developmental testing, another set of pictures have come forward and my they're a Duesey. That's because it's not just one R&D car this time around.

There's a fleet!

It appears that a large engineering team set out to do some testing while a spy may have caught them at a stopover. For a spy that means they hit a jackpot full of gold.

While there's clearly a bunch of 2017 model year S-Class' there's also something a bit interesting. That would be the Maybach S600 that is equipped with the Mercedes-AMG S65 front clip. This isn't the first time we've seen an R&D car equipped like this, we also saw the same treatment on the initial Maybach mules. We'll see if the Maybach brand gets a tie-in with AMG.

Back to the standard S-Class though. In these new photos, you can make out some of the details that will change with this refresh. Now we're seeing the headlights in extreme detail. Note the usage of LED technology. In addition, the front clip will be modified to let the S breathe a bit easier — the intakes appear larger. Lastly, the rear end will get a modified rear clip with newly integrated exhaust finishers.
