As I've waxed poetic before, one vehicle I have strong admiration for is the Cadillac CTS-V. It continuously seems to debut behind the pack of high-performance sport sedans BUT it always is pushing the boundaries of performance. No one can take that away from the V.

Hell, last go around it was the fastest sedan around the world famous Nürburgring for a bit before the Porsche Panamera swooped in.

You know how they say history repeats itself, well, that may just be happening, again. That's because in the latest spy shots, we're seeing the all-new CTS-V trotting around while undergoing developmental testing. That may not sound so interesting.

What IS interesting is the vehicles it's been seen with: an all-new BMW M5 and the star of the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

...

Perhaps we're putting the cart before the horse here but that sends two clear signals, at least, to us:

1) There's a strong chance the CTS-V and Z06 will share motors. General Motors clearly hasn't had a problem with that before as the last-gen V shared a slightly differentiated powerplant with the ZR1.

2) Clearly, Cadillac is benchmarking the M5, which means it will want to surpass that vehicle's power, driving dynamics and everything else you can think of.
