This is most definitely something you do not see every day. Recently spotted abroad was not one, but TWO Bugatti research and development vehicles.

While the Chiron mule was spotted not so long ago, it's clear that the mule stage has advanced into the vehicle's more intricate testing and development. Spied in a convoy with what appears to be a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition (WRE) and a BMW i8, it's clear that Volkswagen Auto Group's (VAG) dream maker is up to some interesting benchmarking tests.

I think it's safe to say now that Bugatti's Chiron will certainly be a plug-in hybrid and benefit from battery power. Why else would it benchmark the i8?

Although the video captures the vehicle ONLY from the rear end, it's pretty clear that the Chiron will feature an updated design that emphasizes cooling. Note the Super Sport-inspired aerodynamics along the roofline and open engine bay? Also check out the rear clip that looks like it is predominantly exposed. I wonder if that air diffuser underneath will make it to production.

There's still a tremendous amount of time left in this vehicle's testing period. Expect it to continue popping up in spy shots for months to come.
