As I noted in my previous thread about the all-new, 2015 Volkswagen Golf R, veedubbers are happy to finally see a Golf producing upwards of 300 horsepower. For generations of .:R products that were underpowered relative to the competition, the battles always shook out to the following result:

The Golf was the "more mature" vehicle to have. Translation: it wasn't as sporting or hard edged as the competition; however, its better transmission and interior materials were what made it more desirable.

But if you've been keeping an eye on VW in recent years, it's painfully obvious the company isn't producing vehicles with the same standard of yore. In the MKIV R32 there were race-inspired seating, specially trimmed floor mats and real brushed aluminum trim. And, the plastics were much more premium.
