SURVEY: Audi Q5 or Mercedes-Benz GLK?
Both cute utes have leaked before their official debuts. We all knew what the GLK would look like, but the Q5 was up in the air. Now that they are both out for all to see, what do you think looks better?

Sorry I couldn't post a picture of the GLK. For some reason I can't use the "more than one upload" feature on my iMac.

And for those who want to know, I would take either a Q5, which I think looks absolutely awesome, or a Volvo XC60, in this class.

Absolutely a Q5 over the GLK.

Much nicer vehicle in my opinion.

Audi, by far looks the best in this category. Next would be the EX35. The rest I don't really care enough about to rate

I agree about Audi -- I've been drooling over the most recent Q5 pics most of the day. The GLK needs to combine the best styling features of the Townside and Freeside instead of experimenting with weird marketing approaches with this vehicle.

Boy I hate saying this,as much as I love Audi, on design it's gotta be the Benz. Audi is just playing it to safe with the designs lately, while still pretty they seem to blend into one over visited style ethic.

The X3 is ugly, guzzles gas and has a terribly mismatched transmission. My friend is regretting his decision in getting an X3 3.0si as it is constantly gear-hunting and he has had several experiences where the car had potentially dangerous delays of acceleration.

This is not an isolated problem--it is well-documented on the X3World fan forums. I am a member of X5World and see it often.

x3 looks better than either of these. and why on earth would your friend allow his transmission to choose gears in the first place? does he not have a mind of his own? does his mom still pick out his clothes for him?

I'd take a forester over an x3. All the features as well as better suited awd system for thousands less.

I like the q5.

Maybe my friend leads a normal life. Maybe he has to drive to work each day and a manual transmission is a hassle. Ever think of that?

"x3, thanks."

Thanks, same for me. I dont do compact SUV's, but if I were forced into taking one, the X3 would be it. The Q5 is certainly nice, but it looks tiny like a Tuscon or Rogue-no thanks. The glk is made by the wrong company-it stands no chance with me. The ex has the same issue as the Q5, and the rdx is just plain weird.

To me both of them looks just OK. But if to choose one i'll take the Audi Q5. Looks bit more sporty and balance design. BTW EX35 still holds the title for the best in this class, especially the exterior design, awesome interior and Powertrain.

I take it you haven't seen an EX35.

I was expecting to love it. I love the G and the FX. Boy, was I wrong.

It has no interior space. Easily the smallest rear seat ever put into a car that size. They had to put knee "indents" in the rear seats just to fit; I'm only 5'9" but I could barely get IN the thing, let alone sit for awhile.

I'm sure the engine is nice. But to top that space deficiency off, it's not even that attractive, it's extremely low to the ground, it guzzles gas and the trunk is tiny. I would definitely not take one.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 4/19/2008 5:13:27 PM
+2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
The EX could have been a huge seller, but when you have to put $2000 in dealer cash on a brand new model that already undercuts all the competitors in price despite offering the best performance and the most technology, you screwed something up. Something is making the EX undesirable despite those class-leading traits, and that something is size. Infiniti just made the EX waaaay too small, plain and simple. It has no space whatsoever inside for occupants or gear. You're better off getting a 3-Series/A4/C-Class wagon, or any other "SUV" in the class, be it an X3, GLK, Q5, RDX, or even an RX350.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 4/19/2008 5:14:45 PM
+4 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Even Infiniti's own G35 or G35x sedans make more sense than the EX. Hell, the G37 Coupe is just about as roomy.

ChipChip - 4/19/2008 7:33:48 PM

One reviewer said this on here, and it's completely true.

SITTING IN THE EX35 IS LIKE BEING IN A COFFIN.

The car is unbelievably short on space inside. Its downright claustrophobic.

Ok so if we go by looks alone... The Q5 seems to be the safe bet, yet the GLK offers a bit more interest cause of weird angles. The interior of the GLK actually remonds me more of old Mercedes than new ones. Kind of like the old 190e from the 80's to early 90's. It is very angular and has a distinct top and bottom sections. The Q5 seems to be a bit larger when just looking at it. But Audi has played it safe yet again and looks like a small Q7.

That's exactly why I like the GLK so much. W201, W124, W140 all over again. Great design then and great of them to play it again now.

The Q5 looks like an awesome car, the GLK just somehow doesn't appeal to me. The Q5 also looks sportier IMO than the GLK, has cleaner lines and has a nice starting engine lineup (155kw 2L TFSI, 125 2L TDI and the 176kw 3L TDI)

Definitely the GLK. It's distinctive on the exterior, and the interior is awesome- looks like a great place to spend time. Though someone mentioned the Volvo XC60, which is pretty appealing too.

I find the recent Audi's to be too outlandish- especially with some of their wheel designs. Sure, they have a few great looking models (R8,TT, A5), but their SUV's aren't among them.

you moron.
You lost credibility (AGAIN!) by stating wrong facts.
Shares absolutely no platform with VW, not even the Tiguan.
It has the new Quattro, and is based on the A5 platform.
But if your point in life is to bash the Audi brand with wrong facts, please be my guest. It just that no one will take you seriously....
Sorry.

you may want to google that fact, because i can promise there are several sources that would state the Q5 is based on the Tiguan, whos right i dont know, and dont really care, but again there are numerous sources that state the Q5 is based on the VW

The Big winners at The Detroit Auto show this year was the Audi A5/S5 and the VW Passat.
I love the big Audi SUV, perhaps the smaller one will be more affordable. Audi is the king in the SUV department. Sensible design. Big Roomy and sporty.

The A5 seemed like a lot of car for the money compared to BMW. The S5 gauges are the absolute best with the needles pointing South for Zero. Very sophisticated.
