Some Chevrolet Dealers Clearing Out Volt Inventory At $159 A Month!

Actually it was "officially" for retooling however it was shut down early because of excess inventory that needed to be depleted.

And if you bothered to read the article linked above you would see the following:

Last week, General Motors said it would suspend Volt production to bring down excess inventories (and to prepare the Detroit factory where it is built for the launch of a new gasoline-powered Impala sedan.)

I guess my point stands?

009...this link says they are "comfortable" with inventory, but since you found an article that says different, I suppose this one is wrong?

I do bother because 009 is an intelligent spy and he should know better.

The lease was $159 a month after a $3000 downpayment and the trade-in value of the BMW, which was not disclosed in the article.

Every manufacturer discounts their older models gives incentives when the new ones arrive.

As far as the "large" inventory goes the problem was that sales were missed because the dealerships did not have the Volt with the right colors/options. Some inventory is needed in order to sell the car. The "extra" inventory was planned as was the plant shutdown, which occurs annually at the end of the summer to retool for the new models. This is why production before the shutdown exceeded demand.

The Volt had a record sales month of August, it is the best selling plug-in vehicle, and the best vehicle in its class for two years running. You can deny these, spew hate and lies, and blame politicians and historical events, but it does not change the reality.

Most standard leases are 12k miles/year, you can always buy extra miles upfront, during or after the lease, the rate varies.

The concept of the Volt is not to entirely drive "long" distances, it is that it could if you need it to. The majority of people's daily driving fits within the Volt's electric range. 12k miles is driving 32 miles every day of the year without using gas. There is nothing unreasonable behind it, leasing and having a lower lease payment than financing the car.
