Daimler said sales of its Mercedes-Benz Cars unit rose 12 percent to 159,021 last month, driven by robust demand in China and the United States, and strong sales of the Mercedes C-class sedan and GLA compact crossover.

Sales of Mercedes-brand cars were up 11 percent in April to 148,072, while deliveries at Smart increased by 31 percent to 10,949, boosted by a new generation of the brand's two-seat minicar and a new four-seat model.
