Alabama and North Carolina are the final states in the running to win a prized Toyota Motor Corp. and Mazda Motor Corp. joint car factory worth $1.6 billion, people familiar with the negotiations told Bloomberg.

Several states were in the running for the massive plant. Tennessee, Texas and South Carolina were recently still in consideration, the people told Bloomberg. Illinois was eliminated from the running last month. Mississippi was also seen as an early contender for the plant.

A final choice is expected to be announced early next year.
