Exactly WTF. I thought this toyota suburu combo was suppose to be the car that brought back the toyota performance racing car. So they decide to bring it as the next generation scion tc.

Gee, not exactly what I expected either. Can't wait for the Formula D spec vehicles. Also, it will make the celebrity race at the Long Beach GP more interesting.

So when Toyota and Subaru get together the result is ... a narrowed Audi? WTF???
Looks like they got input from Pontiac on the over-sized driving lights ... oh wait, its the A2 City Out-back, complete with a concave curve on the rear roof-line that the Japanese so love. How cute! Barbie could meet Ken in this instead of her '75 Vette ... its almost as pretty.

Toyota should have made SCION the performance brand but instead they've made it into an econo-brand that produces cars for the younger consumer. Fine and dandy but at least come out with a performance car if the main target are the youngsters.

This is very strange from Toyota, why is it insisting on not bringing back the real sport cars? Is this a hint that in the near future all cars will better be 4 cylinders due to gas prices probably going up again?

I'm so lost right now. Why would they not bring back the Celica? They have no two door sport performance cars in their lineup. And the Solara is by no means a sporty performance car. It is a Pontiac G6 Coupe in disguise (or vice versa). At least Pontiac has the GXP version with some oomph though.

The tC is a small 164hp 4cyl. budget car that people buy as an alternative to say an older Civic. They can be modified like an older Civic, out the door cost pretty close to an older Civic. But giving it a RWD platform is just ludicrous. Why not bring back a redesigned MR2 with this drivetrain setup, or once again, the Celica. Small, sporty, and a GT-S with 4WD like it used to have back in the day would have been perfect.

Toyota has officially killed it's performance. TRD is nothing more than make you feel fast parts. Giving you brakes, wheels, a muffler, and some springs. Nothing that actually boosts the HP in any significant way to make it stand out. It's like the Mugen versions of Honda's you can find. They are more expensive, give you no extra power, but gives you a little better handling.

C'mon guys, for the price of a loaded tC though (most people buy them base and upgrade aftermarket), you could almost pickup a Civic Si.

Toyota is extremely profitible and I think it knows it's market. Most of you already said the obvious: Toyota doesn't make cars that appeal to me. They do appeal to a lot of consumers, just not this group. So let it go and go with another brand, because Toyota is unlikely to change it's brand image, because it makes them money.

Basically if you want a sporty Japanese car, go with Nissan, cause even Honda is going lame duck.

wow, everyone hates it.

i think its an excellent idea. it brings an affordable, sporty, rwd coupe to the market. the tc seems to sell reasonably well. they will be significantly expanding the market for the tc by switching to rwd. it will be simple and fun, why rag on it?

currently the closest competitor to this car would be a bmw 1-series, which is in a totally different price range.

this will be much more practical than developing a new mid-engined mr2, or a larger rwd platform for a 21st century supra (not to say they shouldn't bring BOTH back).

i don't think this is supposed to be a substitute for a halo car.

until nissan brings back the silvia, this will be a VERY UNIQUE offering.
