Beginning next year Mini will be launching its latest range of more potent diesel powerplants starting with a Mini hatchback that will have a BMW 120d engine. The BMW 4-cylinder was designed for longitudinal installation, but the engineers of Mni were able to fit it into the engine bay transversely even though it was a bit ‘tricky.’

The engine is paired with an automatic transmission in the test vehicles, but the production models are expected to come with a manual gearbox. Another possible feature is a stop-start techonology. The initial of the new Mini diesel models will be equipped with 150bhp, which was detuned from the 177bhp of the 120d. However, there are speculations that say a more potent twin-turbo diesel from the 123d may also be seen in the new Mini.
