Easily regarded as one of 2012's coolest debuts, the all-new SRT Viper is something that die hard American auto enthusiasts have been waiting for. Finally, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has some equal competition.

Or so we thought.

That was until Motor Trend put both of them on Laguna Seca Raceway and the 2013 ZR1 edged out the Viper by approximately two seconds. On the track, that's a healthy distance.

Now you get to see that run by Randy Pobst who makes sure to say that the Viper is NOT an easy vehicle to drive near the limit.

Before the controversial run that we're sure will haunt SRT head honcho Ralph Gilles until the grave, Carlos Lago gives us his thoughts on what may be considered one of the greatest American products of all time.

On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago finally tests the eagerly anticipated 2013 SRT Viper. Carlos runs the Viper through the gauntlet of Motor Trend's instrumented performance tests, while professional racing driver Randy Pobst hits the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca racetrack to see if he can charm the snake.
