Next time someone asks you what your Tundra can pull, tell them that a 2012 5.

7L Tundra can pull a 150,000 pound space shuttle…without any modifications.

The Tundra pulled the 150k lbs space shuttle Endeavour across the Manchester Boulevard Bridge, which spans the 405 in L.A. …and it was bone-stock too.

Is That Tundra REALLY Bone Stock?


Unbelievably, yes. From Toyota:

The truck used to tow the Endeavour was purchased from a Southern California Toyota dealer, with no modifications or special equipment added for the tow.

I see the Tundra is keeping it moving but did it start from a stop and get it up to speed? I highly doubt it. Also what are the odds that the transport 'trailer' has some kind of assist technology on it?

Did it start from a stop? Is that a serious question? What did you think, they used the Shuttles engines to get it moving?
And you can find the odds of the transport 'trailer' having some kind of assist technology on it pretty easily if you try.

Toyota spent a buttload of money for this publicity stunt that helped with the $10 mil move. Another consideration was the weight of the truck due to a bridge capacity so no HDs. Truly was not the best truck for the event. I think the shuttle deserved a better and more distinguished American truck.

Boo on your comments. Face facts, america cant even desugn a decent truck anymore. When NASA needed a big job done, no ford, no dodge, no chevy were up to the task. They went with the SmartAsian brand.

tonyluigi. Damn right I would have like to see the Ram with the Hemi or the Pen V6. But it really should have been the F-150 ecoboost.
1CarSmart1. First, Learn how to spell. Second, If your so "earth friendly' then it should be the F-150 or the Ram, Both get better mileage than the toy and are also ahead with future technology. Toyota was the one willing to sink a BUTTLOAD of money for publicity stunt. Third, You really don't know much about trucks, do you !

When you say "fairly certain," does that mean that you actually have no idea? I fail to see how you could be "fairly certain" of the configuration of the shuttle unless you were involved, and if that was the case, you wouldn't qualify you comment.

I am not a truck expert. Proudly.

I simply know that dumb americans kill the earth with trucks, while smart Euros and Asians use them only when nessecary. How pathetic that weak, pathetic american trucks were humiated by a strong Toyota.

If trucks were people, this manly Toyota just pulled down the pants of GM/Ford/Chrysler and spanked their narrow little child bums in front of a tied-up and gagged mommy.

I am willing to accept trucks if they are used for authorized purposes. There should be special licenses. And when I do accept trucks, I will prefer to see more fuel efficient and cleaner versions made by non-american companies that know how to get the most out of fuel.

1CarSmart1 Sounds like Back-pedeling to me. Also, buy your words if an American Company manufactures the highest fuel efficent truck you still won't accept it? On the other hand you highly support the Tundra even though its engine gets the worst mileage compaired with the F-150 or Ram 1/2 ton. The Ram 1500 w/the Pen V6 and torqueflite8 [ZF8speed] will get 25 mpg with over 300 hp and adequate torque along with the first areo adjustable suspension, active louvered grill and soon w/ hydrolic hybrid technology that will add 20% more efficency. You should be praising this if you are truly concerned about "Carbon Footprints".

docholiday Just to clarify, the hyd-hybrid tech is currently used on large trucks and Ram will offer it on the 1500. It is intended for "stop and go" driving conditions.
