When some vehicles are built, it's clear — at least to me — that they're not produced simply because it's what the market wants. Automobiles can be statement pieces, not only for the owner but for the manufacturer.
And if you ask me, the Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) group's Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat models serve as a figurative middle finger to anyone who has ever doubted American ingenuity. They're good looking, well trimmed on the inside and my goodness they're fast.
In a new promotional clip, FCA released footage of the Charger SRT Hellcat making a name for itself. Now it can claim that it is the world's fastest mass production sedan with a top speed of 204.55 mph. To put things in perspective, NASCARs typically run over 200 mph and feature V8s that sound like they're unleashing fury. Not too dissimilar from what we're seeing here.
If I am not mistaken, per the Guiness Book of World Records rules, there has to be two attempts recorded in opposite directions. From there, the amounts are averaged for the final speed.
Hats off to the SRT developmental team. As far as I know, the world's fastest sedan in terms of top speed was the Bentley Flying Spur W12 that was able to hit 200 mph. Was there anything else, Spies?
