You do understand that there was more costs to the program than just the credit alone right? What about the administrative fees, the transportation and subsequent disposal of the vehicle etc. Who do you think is paying for all of this? Yes us.Secondly, I was in the market for a new 09 Odyssey in/around June of this year before this non-sense C4C. I could have purchased an EXL w/ Navi & RES for around 31500. During C4C I could not find a dealer willing even close to 34k, the same vehicle 2 months older. Now, after C4C, if you can even find 09's on the market, they are still commanding 33.5k on the market because of the lower inventory. It's total insanity. So, in my particular instance, if I had a C4C to trade in, I would get the difference between the TMV of my vehicle and 3500-4500(which ever applies) and pay 3000 more for the vehicle because of this tax-payer subsidized artificial demand. Assuming my trade in was worth NOTHING, I would have made 500-1000 which could have been taken care of with a few hours of negotiation with the dealer anyway. So who really benefited the most from this program, was it the consumer or the dealers? I personally think it was a bailout for the dealers/automakers in the guise of a stimulus program for the US consumer. My opinion, if you don't like it, move on.— kablaam (View Profile)

"Badgewhore", it appears you're the one being used by a political party—Obama's Democrats. This has nothing to do with the GOP. The Obama administration and kool-aid drinkers like you are attacking a private citizen, Edmunds.com CEO Jeremy Anwyl, for daring to expose Obama's C4C program for what it is—an abuse of taxpayer money. Unless you have evidence that proves Edmunds.com wrong, perhaps you, like Obama, should keep your insults to yourself.Perhaps you don't pay enough in taxes, "Badgewhore", to care that this program spent $24K per car. — bionicgold (View Profile)

Two issues going on here:1) The cash for clunkers program is just the latest example of a highly inefficient gov't program that's wasteful with taxpayer dollars.2) The Obama administration has a very nasty habit of viciously attacking anyone who doesn't blindly accept their lies. They're lying about the number of jobs the "stimulus" bill created. They're lying about the success of the clunkers program. They're lying about how much gov't healthcare will cost taxpayers. And you're lying to yourself if you think otherwise. If you want to provide evidence to the contrary, I welcome the debate. If you can't then take the cowardly way out and deboost. — MBCLS07 (View Profile)

Who to trust? Obama or Edmunds.com? Look at the facts and look at the motive. The facts say the C4C program was a waste of taxpayer dollars. Look at motives and Obama has every reason to obscure the truth ($24,000 per car) as his popularity is plummeting and his lofty rhetoric is failing to match the harsh reality of his quadrupling of the deficit and foreign policy blunders abroad. On the other hand, what motice does Edmunds.com have to lie about the C4C program? Clearly the facts and motive point to the conclusion that the Edmunds.com CEO is the more credible source. — bionicgold (View Profile)

Kablaam, you might just not be the best negotiator. I got rid of my clunker, $3500 in my case and received an additional check for the Equity Value on my trade; since the $3500 is independent of the value of the car being turned in. None of this however took place without first establishing the cost of my new car. Through the right dealer and the right negotiations, I secured a price of $1000 dollars below invoice. In my particular instance, I got a car that I wanted at the price that I wanted and as a consumer, I benefitted from this C4C program. Sorry you couldn't secure your Honda.— Airliner (View Profile)

You have to also consider the vast benefits of getting rid of these old suburbans and other older, full of smog and non-efficient cars off the road for newer more efficient cars. That is the major benefit of the program as far as I'm concerned.— investor27 (View Profile)

I might have to agree with him IF we saw a large decline in car sales after the cash for clunkers deal ended. That we have yet to see. How could he make a statement that all but 125000 of those sales would have occurred by the end of the year regardless of cash for clunkers without seeing what car sales actually look like the remainder of the year. So far, they have remained steady with a slight drop due to lack of inventory. I think I will have to agree with the white house on this one. Sounds like twisted facts and evidence. Lets wait and see the real numbers post C4C to see if this has validity Mr CEO.— 0to60 (View Profile)

"I might have to agree with him IF we saw a large decline in car sales after the cash for clunkers deal ended. That we have yet to see."Actually, we have seen a large decline in car sales after the C4C deal ended. (http://money.cnn.com/2009/10/01/news/companies/autosales/index.htm) That's Anwyl's point. Talk to people in the industry like Anwyl and dealers who know the business (not pro-Obama politicians and kool-aid drinkers) and they'll tell you that in the vast majority of cases the C4C program only accelerated sales that were going to happen anyway. The extra sales, as Edmunds.com points out, cost taxpayers $24K. If you're numbers disagree with the facts everyone else is reporting, I'd love to see your sources.— MBCLS07 (View Profile)

Bobby, insults are a poor substitute for a thoughtful rebuttal substantiated with facts. Do you have any facts to support your "trust in Obama" versus the facts laid out by Edmunds.com or, as I suspect, do you just blindly follow your dear leader without question?— MBCLS07 (View Profile)

Bobby...The greater the government involvement (Rep. or Dem.)the less freedom we have to make choices for ourselves. Help the truly down and out...but not those who did not sacrifice and save through hard work to better themselves and their families. Regulate excesses...but leave the free market system that built our standard of living alone to work itself out. Redistribution of income is a deceptive means of buying votes. No more bailouts...the fear of failure is the greatest incentive to succeed. George washington said a two party system will ultimately not serve the people...maybe it is time for a third or even fourth party. — PUGPROUD (View Profile)

Badgewhore, I get the impression you're young, maybe a high schooler. Eventually, as your education improves and your thought process matures you'll learn to think logically and put your trust in facts rather than politicians—regardless of how adept they are at reading a teleprompter. In the meantime, I encourage you to think critically and resist the urge to blame the "GOP" and "white people" (as you've mentioned in your comments) for your shortcomings. Best of luck in your studies!— bionicgold (View Profile)

first of all i'm in the car business, and i dont think either of them are telling the truth. I do believe that yes we stole future business with CFC. ialso belive that there were alot of people who maybe woudl have been in the market sooner or later but they woudl have bought another cheap clunker.. so this move got people buying a fresh new car. this also put an emphasis on getting rid of older gas hogs and into cars with better fuel economy.. it should have been cash for old gas hogs rather than clunkers.. I'd liek to see edmunds held accountable for what they say on their website.. let them buy the cars for the values they say a used car is worth.. they are usually 1-2k higher than true trade in value.just my 2 cents— chris357 (View Profile)
