Ford Motor Co. announced Wednesday it will split leadership of the company under CEO Jim Hackett between two top lieutenants.

Joe Hinrichs will guide automotive manufacturing and operations globally, and Jim Farley will lead automotive 2.0 and the future that includes driverless vehicles and big data.

This "accelerates progress" on global business redesign and product resurgence, the company said in a news release.
