General Motors has resumed production of the 2010 Camaro SS after having fixed the mechanical defect problem earlier reported. No recall is warranted. Last week, reports came in from owners related to failures of the Tremec six-speed manual gearboxes.

It is unclear what the actual cause of the defect is but it has been speculated to be related to the output shaft of these vehicles. The defect manifested itself in the form of a debilitating mechanical failure when the affected vehicles were launched aggressively with the engine turning 5,000 rpm or more. Production has continued but some units have been held back to double check.
