Alright, let's get down to brass tacks. Is the "New" Saab worth getting cranked up about?

Sure, they have shied away from General Motors' debauchery and have begun a relatively fresh start, but will that be enough to leer away customers from those big names? Namely: Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

I'll tell you, the new 9-5 is a pretty sweet machine. When I had the chance to see it in the flesh there is no question it is a handsome vehicle. My only beef is that it has a lot of GM switchgear on the interior. Sure, it is packaged nicer but the button work and some interior panels remain...familiar.

Based on the same architecture that makes up the Opel Insignia, Chevrolet Malibu, 2010 Buick LaCrosse and upcoming Cadillac XTS, I am sure it will drive well.

Therein lies the problem, is well good enough anymore?

What say you, Spies? Is Saab going to take down the big guns OR is the company a bit too ambitious?


The redesigned 2010 Saab 9-5 Aero sedan is big, filled with technology, and designed and engineered to compete with the Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-class sedans.

“The new Saab demonstrates that we are alive and kicking,” said Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker Cars
NV, the Dutch sports car maker that purchased Saab from General Motors Co. in February.
