Marti Barletta of Brandweek voiced something that I've always suspected: Honda and Toyota built their cars to women's taste and destroyed the domestic car industry.

Look at Barletta's list of factors to consider to appeal to women:

"Women do consider the environment such as pollution." Women have always been on the forefront in hybrid and other alternative fuel advocacy. I know, watching my own parents and my female siblings, has to do with managing gas costs while being the primary driver for the kids. I'll bet many hybrid buyers are women.

"Women tend to be more interested in a car’s interior." One of the common complaints about GM and Ford vehicles (besides their lack of reliability) is their substandard interiors compared to Honda, Toyota, never mind lux models such as BMW or, especially Audi. while the remaining domestics have narrowed the gap, the Japanese provided good quality interiors for decades. Was this the start of their (eventual) domination today?
