To say that we're fans of the Porsche 911 would be stating the obvious. These sports cars are brilliant and whether you like it or not, you have to respect the fact it's been around for 50 plus years.

It just keeps on getting better with every iteration. How many other nameplates have this kind of lasting power and tradition? Not many.

2016 New York Auto Show

The latest variant to come from the boys and girls in Stuttgart is the 911 R. With only 991 to be built it is a hot item and from what we hear they're sold out in the U.S. market. Yes, even priced at over $180,000 a pop.

The 911 R is suppose to be the purist's 911. In a day and age where the GT cars have dual-clutch boxes and lack some of the old-school feel some Porschephiles want, this is Stuttgart's answer. Now you get the powerful motor, a lot of the aerodynamic trickery but without much of the flair — unless you count the stripes.
