Autospies must seriously be desperate for news lately... The CTS-V has long bettered the (not aging too gracefully) M5 in numerous comparison test in the past... all for considerably less money. Great Performance + Great Style + Great Price = Great Car— FuRoPiNiOn001 (View Profile)

Three problems with the Caddy: 1. Styling is questionable. Looks too much like an Acura - which isn't a good thing. 2. Quality is questionable. Its still a GM product and we usually know what that means. 3. What your neighbor thinks is questionable. Snootiness matters in any luxury car. No one may want to admit it, but its true. And the Caddy still comes across like Corvette compared to a Ferrari. Good for the money, but eveyone knows that if you had the money you'd have bought the Ferrari. — thstone (View Profile)

The only quality issue is with BMW. The Caddy has the longest lux warranty than any car.— 1UAW (View Profile)

And how many of them actually showed the M5 regaining the lead over the CTS at ard. 140mph despite having so much lesser power and I guess, heavier???— TECHGEEK (View Profile)

The way in which the M5 regained the lead says to me that the gearing of the CTS-V at that rpm is not at the engine's torque peak. The 7-speed M5 has an advantage there because it can find that sweet-spot with the extra cog. That's purely a gearing issue that can be corrected quite easily. However. On the same note, I would love to see the 6 speed MANUAL in both cars compared. The truth, though, is that the average driver will perhaps never get to 140mph legally and maybe only just to that on a track. On that track the lead that the CTS-V commands off the line will be kept throughout because the M5 can't out-handle it around the corners. — tango (View Profile)

I think you are confusing things, gearing is the fundamental cause of a better 0-60 number which is why that statistic is crap. The number that people look at to compare engine power is the trap speed at the 1/4. — kablaam (View Profile)

Look at the trap speed at 1/4 mile, 116 vs 111 mph, are you really kidding me? CTS V is a great car, but to laud it because it can beat a 5 year old car that is being replaced in a year from stop light to stop light is silly.— kablaam (View Profile)

Of course the caddy is going to be faster in a drag race. It already has a much larger engine (6.2 litres vs 5.0 litres) and a supercharger on top of that. Even putting a low pressure supercharger on the smaller M5 engine would result in the caddy getting smoked. The CTSv is one hell of a car though and I totally respect it. The M5 is older also. The M5 will break 200mph with the speed limiter removed. Motor trend did this way back when the M5 first came out. — 85bmw745i (View Profile)

The M5 is still impressive though. it has 1.2 liters less and no supercharger. Traction, tire pressure, gearing and all have alot to do with it as well. My 85 745i doesn't leap 0-60 very fast due to super tall gearing ( it reaches about 62mph in first gear) and would get smoked by a mustang or camaro in a stoplight to stop light drag race but eats them alive on the freeway or pretty much any speed over 25mph. — 85bmw745i (View Profile)
