Audi Q7 vs. BMW X5 vs. Mercedes R 320 Diesel Comparison Test

BenzInsider.com had this interesting video comparison on their site and we wanted to share it with you.



This sure is an unusual test that Auto-moto-und-Sport did, by comparing the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI, BMW X5 3.0d and Mercedes R 320 CDI. Instead of comparing the Q7 and X5 with the GL, they chose to do it with the R-class. I am not sure how they view the R-class in Germany and in the rest of Europe, but in the States, the R-class is considered a minivan. While it may be a "minivan" it sure did not perform like one; just watch and you'll see.

Weird comparison. The Q7 competes against the GL. The X5 competes against the ML. Audi has nothing currently to offer against these two. The R has no competition as of now.

True, true, but it still doesn't compete against the cars it did in this video. Consumers think differently however.

The Audi Q7 TDi wins. The Q7 easily out-accelerated the R-class Benz and X5 BMW. The Q7 also had the shortest braking distance as well.

The Q7 had decent rear-legroom and was just the better performer in this test.

Another way for Audi to prove that they are indeed equl to BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

I'm just surprised that the R-Class did better than the X5... better acceleration, better braking, more room. Though it did look a little softer in the salom, i don't think that's its primary purpose.

Other people are right though, the Q7 should be compared to the GL, and the R has no competitor, but at least it made for an interesting review.

the R class is a strange car/ i would feel weird driving a family van MB

Damn, the Audi TDI SPANKED the others in acceleration. Audi truly builds the BEST diesels, there is no argument there. It whipped up on the X5 by 1.4 seconds. That is some major ownage. Better braking as well. Audi FTW. And yes I know that the X5 has been redesigned not long ago but not out on the market yet. Still, those jokers thought that the old X5 was better than the Q7. Also, all three diesels are fairly awesome, I am sure all will get around 20 city and 28 highway [R class 21 city and 28 highway] That is mid size sedan milage. Amazing.

Just because the Audi was the fastest doesn't mean they make the best diesels.

Hey Goldsmith, shut up. VW might not build cars quite as reliable as Toyota, but at least you don't fall asleep behind the wheel when driving one.

I can tell you the big difference between the Mercedes R 32 CDI long model and the Audi Q7 3.0l TDI is that the Mercedes does not lose its wheel on the highways and doesn't have the same technical problems as the Audi Q7. Read the story on my blog http://accident-audi-q7.skynetblogs.be/

I have my Mercedes R 320 CDI since January 2007 and no incident happened to this vehicle (it has already 50.000 km), while our ex-Audi Q7 has just "survived" for 6 weeks (and 6.000km), then it lost its wheel. And,again, in March 2008, new accident of the same kind of another Audi Q7. My conclusion: they really do not play in the same class !!!
