Wilco, we already know that when Japanese car companies design cars, the designers are told to design cars based on what furure German cars will look like and we also know the German car companies keep a design on the market longer than a Japanese company will.

And so you have a new MB that looks like a current Acura, but the MB is only a new design based on one of their older designs.

I'm not being defensive, I'm just pointing out the obvious.

I play guitar and back during the late 70's a Japanese guitar company called Ibanez were sued by an American guitar company called Gibson guitar because Ibanez were making exact copies of the Gibson Les Paul, Flying V and the Explorer guitars and Gibson won that lawsuit.

How about if the Japanese car companies try and design cars without starting with a MB or BMW to begin with?

I have recently been studying and scrutinizing the designs between LS460 and MB and realized how cluttery and unclean the sheetmetal is attached on the MB, BMW and Audiwagon while LS460 is truely clean and modern looking. Hands down..LS460 is a winner in design. Its just years ahead..that's all..

That image you're talking about is a photoshop. There's no evidence that the next E-Class will look like that. And most certainly, that was not "insider information". Magazines etc. like to claim that to give them credibility.

This p-shop does make some sense as a new design...The long rear window line and shorter trunk lid are reminiscent of the S550.

Having said that, I think that this rendering is probably a little over-agressive in terms of styling. Maybe the next gen E-class AMG model will look this aggressive, but I expect the other models will be more refined like the current ones. This looks like a 4 door SL550

Mercedes wants the thrown back, they started it with the CLS, continued with the S class, the new ML/GL, ran with it with the new CL, and will finish it off with the new E and C..Oh and dont forget the suger coating, the SLR..Mercedes is once again the best..

A beautiful sedan, especially when you compare it to the mid-size category. It has the elegance of a specialty sedan, not the bread and butter E. Whether it's a photoshop or no, it's a nice photoshop.

Constant breakdowns?

You Lexus guys are so full of it. Constant breakdowns is overdoing it. Most of the E-Class problems were simple electronic glitches like the radio not working or the electric windows not functioning, but not "constant breakdowns" as you claim.

I drive an S550: zero problems.

I own a German car, a Mercedes C230 (V6) manual and I love it so far. No reliability issues whatsoever. I bought the car knowing Mercedes wasn't the highest on the JD Power quality surveys. I don't use JD Powers to buy a car anyway. Many of my friends drive German cars and let me tell you, the "horror stories" that you hear Lexus fanboys spewing on this site are overblown. Yes, German cars aren't as reliable as they used to be, but let's not overblow the problem.

I think it looks good but too much like the current RL. It looks more refined though and not so bland like the current E-class. It's got more of an agressive stance. However since this is not an official spyshot and just a photochopped image we shall wait and see. If it does make it to production it wouldn't look too bad. Imagine the E63 for that. It just screams madness.

Does anyone know when Mercedes is going to use the Stratified-Charged Gasoline Injection (CGI) engine? It is supposed to increase both power and fuel economy, not to mention the control aspect capabilities.

Thought you could use a little education about mercedes, they have always been innovators of technology and they were the first to invent the automobile! Last time I checked, Lexus has not been an innovator of technology, just a copycat and perfectionist of some else's technology. Unlike any other manufacturer, they were the first to invent abs,esp, airbags, seatbelts, presafe, and any other safety devices that cars have today. For anyone to say they are not the safest automobile in the world is absurd. Also the fact that you compare german cars to japanese cars is like comparing apples to oranges. Two entirely different driving styles.
