Planned Updates for Subaru

Subaru is currently on track to produce a total of 600,000 vehicles for 2006, but is still considered small by global car manufacturer standards. The company’s mid to long-term goal is to lift this figure to 800,000 models, and to do this Subaru plans to release updated versions of its Impreza, Forester and Legacy models.

The all-new Impreza hatch and sedan are due in the second half of next year, followed by the next-generation Forrester in 2008 and Legacy in 2009. To help its standing in Europe, Subaru will be launching a new range of turbo-diesel engines that will most likely coincide with the launch of the new Impreza. There will be both 2.0L four-cylinder boxer versions as well as a 3.0L six-cylinder variant.

To compete in the power stakes, Subaru is also rumoured to be working on a new 3.6L gasoline engine as well as new turbo charging technology. Further, a newly formed alliance with Toyota will provide Subaru with the latest in hybrid technology. However, the immediate goal is still to promote its new range of diesel powerplants.

Subaru will continue to climb into the world of stardom among cars...Back in 1989, after Toyota launched Lexus upscale..Mazda and Subaru was planning on the same project by launching their own upscale brands. Subaru should have done it. Plenty of cash and solid build reputation around the world..adored in Japan. Subaru also produced world's first production CVT trainy back in late 80's w/Subaru Justy. It also came with 4wheel drive and a turbo engine also. Pack that much in a small package and still dominate in reliability is truely amazing. Nice job, Subaru!

Nice article 009 btw. I'll add that pictured above Subi definetely is a stand-out among Japanese machines..but then again Subaru always built something quite different from the rest. Its always been highly profitable, AWD for entire market range, horizontally-opposed turbo charged engines..Subaru has been a powerhouse in engine building.

As in Saab and many other car manufacturers of today, Subi also started out as a Aircraft manufacturer during WWII but advantage is having affilation with a Toyota and Fuji heavy industry with deep pockets. Its just matter of time before you'll see Subi's begin flourishing and dominating as they have in Dalkar races and slew of other races..battle tested.

the image picuted looks kinda like a photoshopped RX-8 to me. Is that supposed to be the WRX hatch? I think bringing back the two door WRX is a great idea for Subi.
