Possible production news on a contender for the R8, Gallardo, DB9, etc...

So back in February of this year, 001 posted a story of the supposedly new supercar coming from BMW. This was big news since the last supercar out of the BMW brand was the famed late 70’s M1 (yes, opinions aside).

With a not known yet rear or mid mounted 5.0-liter V10 that would tweak out somewhere in the neighborhood of 550hp, have RWD of course, and have extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum…it could provide a wedge in the onslaught of mid sized super cars.

It will be [possibly] called the BMW Z10.

But with the massive assault from Audi with the R8, Lexus’ up and coming supercar, and other auto manufacturers tweaking their lineup, could the BMW Z10 be a car that makes the rest of the automotive world a little uneasy?

Follow the link to a Fifth Gear episode that was done this May about the Van Horssen Group and watch and listen closely to the 6:43 and 6:45 minute marks. Have the rumors come true? (And yes, the rest of the video is amazing as well).

Not that we need anymore flame wars but......Thoughts? Comments?

Your saying it will make the R10, LF-A, Gallardo and Z06 uneasy......I know BMW is aiming for incredible performance but they will not allow you to drive a Carerra GT killer for 1/4 the price.

It will be good for the competition, but the only class of car that makes the exotics such as the F430, Gallardo, R8 and LF-A look bad are the true supercars such as the Enzo, Carerra GT etc....

BMW's mid-engine car will be in line with the F430, Gallardo, R8 crowd not the Carerra GT or Enzo group.

MDalle,

This is just German Nut being his usual self. Yesterday it was comparing the "exotic" R8 "supercar" to the M3, which is a totally different class of car.

Now he's stunned because he knows that if BMW manufactures a "supercar" that it will crush the Audi. So,now he brings the Enzo and Carrera GT into the group. He's obsessed with trying to put BMW down at all costs. It just goes to show you who the benchmark is amongst the luxury marques!!

Watch - his next response will be to remind us that Audi makes the best interiors!

If BMW, for a change, pulls off a nice exterior design, modify thier IDrive and put a nice elegant interior(Mercedes)..They could have a winner..Especially with 550 horses..But knowing BMW, its gonna be ugly both in and out..

I think BMW interiors are ok from a quality POV, it's just that the competition make BETTER INTERIORS.

I do agree that BMW interior designs, especially under Bangle, were nothing to write home about. I miss the driver oriented cockpits BMW used to have. One reason why I kept my E39 530i.

^Agree.

The last generation 5-Series were much cleaner and "driver/cockpit oriented that helped the E39's take the lead in so many "best of" lists.

I think the best seat in the current 5-Series is the back seat. Let someone else mess with all that mess.

And there are solid rumours of atleast one Z6/Z8 exists in BMW headquarters.

I believe BMW will announce very soon about their new high performance GT.

It should be Z6/Z10 instead of Z6/Z8.
