Spy Shots: BMW’s R-class Competitor
Remember in the beginning of November we brought you the image of the BMW MPV? Well it’s time for another BMW MPV spy shot. The company is expecting the market for a MPV model to grow by 45 percent between 2005 and 2015. Now its seems like BMW is triggering their new MPV towards the Mercedes R-Class. Due out in 2009, the MPV has the development name of “Super Touring” and will supposedly fit into the 5-Series and X5 range. Click through for an image of the back.

I like MPV it should compete well against MB R-class.

It almost reminds me of people used to call a "STATION WAGON"

this is not a "spy photo" it's an "artist's rendering", and my guess is it looks nothing like the actual car will. There's also no way the back of the vehicle will look like this, as it would negate the 3rd row seat that BMW would HAVE to have to compete in this segment (why they want to compete in this segment in the first place when the R-class has been such a failure is beyond me, but that's a topic for a different thread).

Dumb idea. BMW does not need this model. Mercedes went too far to capture all segments. As much of a Merc fan I am very disappointed in MB's thinking. Why do we need the B class and R class? On top of that they slap on an AMG on an R-class !

This looks so much better than an R-Class...though the front end propotioning (lights, grille, etc.) need work.

Yes but the simple idea of even having an R class competitor is dumb. It's not needed for BMW.

I think the R-Class fits Mercedes' image better than it does BMW's. However, I do think that the R-Class is pointless, especially when MB has the ML and GL and E Class estates, all of them available in AWD and with better handling.

BTW, this photoshop is hideos. They used a European Ford van I believe as the car to add some BMW parts on.

That looks like a big 1-series with a 5-series front. How can you even call this a spyshot?

Please, BMW... do not build this. It will taint your image to no end, as if it's not already ruined.
