That's only one picture how can you tell its a sharp design. It looks very plain in this one picture.

Civic is probably more fun to drive.
But I would take the corolla over the civic if i had to.
Although i do not like the new toyota "Indian dot" grills.

nothing special.
renault did "radical" 3 years ago, this is comparitively bland.
for the americas though, its's perfect.
in europe? i don't know, but ours will look different, it always has done.
our current one looks sharper than this.

I think this car is a lazy attempt by Toyota and no-where near class-leading!

It looks unproportional and bland compared to European rivals!

'unproportional' is NOT a word.

it is the EURO makes that are disproportionate-- to american eyes. (why does audi feel it has to put truck-sized grilles on small sedans?)

toyota is smart enuff to offer different styles for different markets. tailored to local tastes.

Kind of look like a rebadge to me of the Lexus IS series.

the mazda3 looked 'different' and maybe non-'bland' when it came out a few years ago.

NOW, it just looks ODD and DATED.

non-sophisticates, who are incapable of appreciating CLEAN and durable sensible styling, seem to think ANYTHING different is better. not always.

not that the mazda3 is not a good HANDLER.

but its looks are nothing special.

the '07 camry despite initial criticisms, is a runaway best seller. as a mini-camry, this corolla may well also see sales further boosted.

I rate it 3 out of 5 on the burning scale [tendency to burn]. Looks bland like the rest of Toyotas. But I don't think this is the American Corolla as the American version is delayed for a year or more to make it look more "exciting"

I think you've mistaken this for BMW, Audi and MB, who've proven their cars can catch fire the first year, not the 10th.

Well then, they will first have to convince the world that a safely-styled hatch with average levels of handling and comfort is a much tastier proposition to the solid and stylish Golf, the sexy Fiat Bravo, the quirky and funky Citroen C4, the ultra-reliable and modern Honda Civic, the sporty Mazda 3 and the plain but well-sorted Focus.

That is no walk in the park. Europeans are far too image-conscious and value styling and sportiness too much to take second best in those categories and fork out on a Corolla.

Even if it turned out to be a decent car, no one would want to drive it.

Sorry for all of you that like boring looking cars.. If this was from the big three everyone would be saying looks like crap which it does. Big plastic cheap looking front end says nothing but cheap. Big company like Toyota and this is the best they can do.. Toyota is the Next GM.. Boring looking cars that sell because everyone says they are great cars.. ex mother inlaw has had three of the present designed Corolla's none of which lasted over 125k.. She drives about 50k a year.. now she drives a Civic and never been in for repairs unlike her last three Toys

I will hand it to Toyota, this is not bad. But I still think the styling on the Mazda 3 (Hatch Only) and Civic is better. I dont really like the sloping rear decklid. I am sure it will sell like hotcakes, the current Carolla is selling like hotcakes even though it is dated and looks like horse $hit.

On a burning scale, I give it a 2. Toyota seem to be having more problems with larger vehicles than its compact models.

Looks like a Mazda 3 from the front: seriously.

No doubt it sell like flies, but that front just looks Mazdaish, especially with those lights and the grille. Yes I realize it is a Toyota trademark but here, it just looks like a Mazda.

You Toyota guys shouldn't get so offended. We have our opinions. Also, we never said the car sucks. We simply stated our opinions about the design.

Pretty bland, but design isn't important to Corolla buyers. Heck, my brother drives one and he's not into cars as much as I am.

note all the detractors, mostly euro fan boys, have to drag up HONDA and MAZDA models as supposedly "superior."

i guess this is a concession that none of the competing Euro models can even touch the Corolla. LOL!

This is already the least-desirable compact sedan on the market. Just by this picture. REALLY boring. The Corolla has just never been a very attractive proposition. The Civic matches or beats it in reliability (and every other category), the Rabbit is about 10X more fun to drive and has a more attractive interior that's less plasticky, the Mazda3 is still a stylish, fun little hatch with a semi-high-quality interior. I think Will said the 3 wasn't attractive any more- how wrong he is.

the absolute best 1.8 liter car is the lotus elise.

with a COROLLA ENGINE!

one can get a bargain facsimile in a Corolla S.
