GM Open To An Alliance With Ford?

GM Open To An Alliance With Ford?
No. 1 U.S. carmaker General Motors is open to an alliance with its No. 2 rival Ford, Vice-Chairman Bob Lutz said in a newspaper interview on Sunday.

Asked whether GM would choose to go it alone or merge with Ford, Lutz said, "We are open to alliances. But we can also be successful alone."

Lutz spoke in an interview in the Swiss newspaper SonntagsZeitung.

Both Ford and GM are restructuring North American operations to adjust to a loss of market share in their home markets. GM is attempting to recover from a $10.6 billion loss in 2005.

Lutz said GM remained open to a smaller deal with Renault-Nissan after GM declined to pursue a larger tie-up with the French-Japanese group.

"We would have been in agreement with a smaller deal on engines, and we still are today," he said.

Lutz is a Putz - whose arrogance and inability to shake up sufficiently the new product development portfolio and process at GM will bring the company to its knees.

Toyota is not that stupid, they would never merge with GM unless they had a death wish.GM would just suck the success out of Toyota!!

They are not merged, they just have a sales agreement that dates back to the 80's.Did you know that GM rebadged a Chevy Cavalier as a Toyota in order to sell it in Japan!!But don't confuse doing Business and Merging together,it's a big difference!!!

2JZSoarer. I agree thats why i didnt say they were merged i just ment that they have a long standing business relationship in which they have shared many things. A lot of people have no idea that this has been going on. The Vibe & the Matrix are a good example.
You are right though i should have been clearer.
