Looks like a cross between a quasi-Lexus and a Camry. A bit boring but also a safe design. Just what Toyota is all about.

And it looks like a mini Camry. Which isn't too bad, but I think the styling of the current Camry is a little too much.

Yes, it's true. Toyota felt they weren't brave enough when they saw the new Civic, so they tried to de-bland the new Corolla.

Personally, I don't think it worked. The Corolla, like the Camry, somehow looks both bland and ugly at the same time.

The back is typical corolla but the front is a baby camry indeed

A simple car with conservative, but not bland, styling. It goes for the exact market it's trying to capture. These are the people who want efficient point a to b cars, and I think this Corolla will be spot on.

(granted you'd never see me buy one, but then again, this car isn't aimed at me, or for that matter, probably most of us)

overrated civic? whatever. obviously you have never drvien the thing. the design may not be for everyone, but you can't deny good driving dynamics, quality, and reliability.

no, MB can't progress beyond triangular headlamp covers/enclosures until they get it RIGHT. current versions are poor copies of those on other cars.

since with wind tunnel fine tuning so many cars these days have similar profiles, the LIGHTS --front and rear-- are major factors in design today.

the japanese stylists have been battling it out in this arena for YEARS. euro makes just dabblers still; they've been spending all their design efforts on whole front FACES.

The European Corolla (Auris WTF?) looks extremely boring.

I shall call it "Mini Me" (Camry)!!!

The headlights look like the Camry's but the fog lights look like the Lexus IS foglights. The back is typical Corolla though. Civic looks better in my opinion, but this has a practical style to it while the Civic is for the younger crowd.

This car might have a navigation system because it looks like there is a backup camera on the trunk lid. I bet it will also have SmartKey to compete with the new Sentra.

mite be JUST a rumor, but i read somewhere toyota may offer the ls460's self-parking feature on the new corolla.

a rear camera would be needed for this.

note the shape of the C pillar.

alone in this class, it is "grown up." suggestive of earlier generation lexus LSs, rather than competing 'boy racers.'

the logo placement, like on the camry, is toyota's answer to the M-B hood ornament. this car is modern looking and yet elegant in an understated way.

i predict they will sell tons of it!

Do I like European cars JUST because they come from Europe?

Or do I appreciate the values and mindset Europeans share when it comes to building a car?

It is possible I don't agree with the 'disposable' Japanese mindset, where their cars (although they last a long time) are designed to look good for only a few years.

Maybe it's because I appreciate fine aesthetics and have an eye for design that I would rather drive a car from a design-leading continent? Where cars are part of the national culture, and not some 'accessory' which needs to be in a Fast and the Furious movie to get noticed.

No. We don't like cars for their countries of origin- WE LIKE EUROPEAN CARS BECAUSE THEY'RE EXCITING. Everything they do, they do well. I agree 100%!

If cars like the VW Rabbit or BMW M5 were Japanese, I would still love them!

Well, Will, we could do an even longer list on why we love Euro cars. Just because you think Japanese cars are better, it does not actually mean they are better. The same goes to us and cars form the EU.

A lot of that was subjective, too. You could say that the Mercedes S-Class is a "good value" because it's a Bentley Flying Spur competitor for half-price. Then again, the S600 is the only Bentley competitor, but it's still $40K less.

Quality, too, is very subjective. Define "quality". I could say that Audi makes well-built cars- does that mean they have great quality? Probably. They feel like bank vaults when you shut the door, a key factor that makes a lot of people love German cars.

Reliability isn't so subjective, but it depends on the owner, too, something that a lot of people overlook. Anyone who has a Range Rover that's always breaking down obviously doesn't take care of it. That, or they got a lemon.

Efficiency? I'm guessing you mean in gas mileage. When you're talking about non-hybrids, the Japanese have no upper hand in efficiency to speak of. No non-hybrid Lexus has better mileage than a German competitor, unless it has an advantage like weight or a smaller engine. I happen to believe that most German carmakers are more efficient when it comes to power. I mean, a 4.7L Toyota engine with 268hp? BMW has made almost twice that much out of a 5.0L! Audi can squeeze 420hp out of a NATURALLY ASPIRATED 4.2L! The list goes on...

This car is ugly from front to back with it's silly pseudo race look.

IMHO I'd rather have a Civic (especially an Si coupe or sedan), but this will undoubtedly remain competitive.

Sometimes I just wish Toyota had better designers. Starting with the current Solara, this design theme is getting pretty old. You can be simple and stylish- look at the VW Rabbit!

the Solara may be overdue for freshening, but nothing dated about it. could be i just don't see TOO MUCH of 'em here, but i haven't tired of it yet.

it's been described as sort of a mini lexus sc. there IS a resemblance, and stick V6 is prob'ly sportier.

it's at least a FAR MORE distinctive camry, than the previous camry 2-door.

not to mention the new rabbit is a 5-cyl but STILL slower than japanese 4s.
