Lexus SUV to battle X3, GLK & Q5

Lexus is getting a "smaller than RX" car based SUV.
It will be based on the same platform as the RAV4 and will also use the 3.5 Liter V6.

They also might be offering the 2.5 Liter engine from the IS as a base engine.
After all, the more expensive RX couldn't have the same base engine...

Based on the RAV-4, yet another entry-premium Lexus just like the ES 350 that is a reworkded Camry. Doesn't look good from that photo.

Looks like a cross between the Infiniti FX (back) and the Mazda CX-7 (front) with a dash of Acura RDX to me...

So i'd be an RX250?
Or __250? (Fill in model designation)

No- like they said, it would be a DIFFERENT MODEL than the RX. The RX is slightly larger. It would make sense that they call this the "IX" or "SX" or something.

That sounds sporty. Lexus IX350. I think I'll go patent that.

It's based on a RAV4 doesn't mean its going to be a RAV4 with tighter panels & re-badged a Lexus. All Lexus' new models are their own cars and you cannot get a Toyota variant of them. They are trying to distance themselves from parent company Toyota so why would they break that trend now? i.e. IS250, 350, ES350 & LS460.

Also the Porsche Cayenne & Audi Q7 are based on the VW Toureg chassis/platform, and they are great cars. So based on that, I can understand why Lexus would choose a RAV4 as a base platform for their new smaller SUV.

Last time I checked the ES350 is BASED off the Camry. And the Lexus is actually a variant of the Toyota. So there's an instance of a Lexus designed from a Toyota.

The GX470 is another one. Blatantly just a 4Runner.
Do I have to go farther? RX350 and Toyota Highlander.
Lexus LX470 and Toyota Land Cruiser.

All of Lexus' SUVs are based off existing Toyota models. What makes you think this new "X3 killer" won't be either? BTW, the Lexus IS350 is hardly slowing down the BMW 3-Series. I thought the IS350 was supposed to be a 3er killer. Guess it wasn't good enough. That Turbo 6 from the 3er is pretty amazing. Too bad Lexus couldn't pump something out that good.

Oh and how's the LS460 doing against the S-Class and 7-Series. Not well I presume. Pshh, Lexus trying to beat the Germans. What a stupid idea.

mitch-

WHAT??????

WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF THAT???

They already have the GX AND the LX, WHY DO THEY NEED ANOTHER SEVEN-PASSENGER, GAS-GUZZLING SUV?

If it REPLACES the hideous GX, then that's fine, but if it doesn't, I'm flabbergasted.

The next gen RX which will arrive in about a year will have a regular and a long wheelbase, with a V6 and a V8 plus, of course, a hybrid. It will be on a car platform where the GX is on the 4 runner platform. The new LX570 will be here first however.

And- WHY IS A NEW RX COMING OUT NEXT YEAR?

We got it right when the RX330 came out. It's 3.5 years old. Why do they need to redesign it when it's less than FIVE YEARS OLD?

And Audi's quattro. How could you forget?

Well, noone can match quattro.

what about the RX? thats FWD drive based, and the hybrid is almost exclusively FWD (the engine doesn't power the rear wheels).

The X3 owns this segment because no other german automaker to make a small SUV? lol. I h8 the X3 to the max, but i love the sport package on it. It changes it from ugly, to beautiful, but everything has its costs!

I hate the X3, too... worst BMW EVER. I mean, a 3er Touring makes so much more sense- more fun to drive, better-looking, nicer interior, easier on gas, and I think it has more passenger volume!

The Lexus fans have been whining about how the LS600h has the first "low-beam LED headlamps". Well, I was just reading EVO magazine's December issue (as well as CAR's, and CAR actually drove this but EVO just looked at it), and the new Audi R8 is the first car in the world to have full-LED headlamps. Not just daytime running lights, not just low-beams. Full headlamps. They cost extra, but they're so cool-looking!

the R8 doesnt have full LED headlamps, there are projector-beams with LED "driving lights" like on the S6 and 911 Turbo. LED Headlamps have yet to be confirmed on the R8, and as much as i hate lexus and love audi (i own two) i think lexus beat them to the game.

Well, then was EVO magazine mistaken?

I actually think you're wrong. They said the full LED headlamps were optional. I think you're thinking of the STANDARD LED driving lights.

Wow! Headlights! Look at how idiotic you guys sound by reading my former post!

I got to say all these new compact SUV are really ugly, not a single one is good looking and do you know that you really pay more for what you're getting out of them? If I were Lexus, I would modify the current RX make it a REAR wheel drive for God's sake, get rid of the GX470 and modify the LX470 to be lighter and bit wider and longer.
