2006 LA Auto Show: Giugiaro Mustang vs. New Camaro-What's better looking?

2006 LA Auto Show: Giugiaro Mustang vs. New Camaro-What's better looking?
So you know that Ford is floating this Giugiaro Mustang concept to help finalize details for the Mustang refresh.

We GUARANTEE you that a lot of what you see there will be incorporated into the re-freshed Mustang.

And the reason is they are getting ready to battle the new Camaro and not lose too much ground.

So the big question is...

Which one is better looking?

Giugiaro Mustang or New Camaro.

OMG!! It looks amazing. Im going to have to say its even better looking than the camaro. Its aggressive and has the pony car look to it, but it also has very sleek and elegant lines. If the refresh looks this good, it might be my next car.

Dumb question. The mustang is clearly the better looking car.

I AM AN ORIGINAL OWNER OF A '70 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE WITH EVERY ACCESSORIE ORDERED IN THE SUMMER OF 1969. EVERYTHING STILL ORIGINAL SO, I'M MUSTANG AT THE CORE.
VERY!! NICE EXTERIOR. MODERN, CLEAN, MUSCULAR, BIG WHEELS. KEEP IT AS IS. REPEAT, DO NOT CHANGE. SWEEPING WINDSHIELD ONTO GLASS ROOF, SCISSOR DOORS, INCORPORATED TAIL LIGHTS, ROUNDED TAILORED FRONT, AND OVERALL RETURN TO SHORT DECK AND LONG HOOD APPEARANCE . VERY NICELY DONE!
BUT, THE INTERIOR IS STUFFY, CROWDED. TOO MUCH. DELETE THE PARTI-COLORED HIDES. MINIMIZE THE SEAT PIPING. TONE DOWN THE CHROME TO MINIMIZE GLARE. TACH AND SPEEDO ARE RETRO, BUT, TO GO WITH THE SUPER EXTERIOR, MAY I SUGGEST A DIFFERENT SHAPE/STYLE. AND WHAT ABOUT AN OPTION OF A TRANNY PADDLE SHIFTER. YOU GUYS ARE CREATIVE. YOU CAN DO IT.
YOU'VE ALREADY DONE IT WITH THE EXTERIOR. FABULOUS...REALLY! CONGRATS.

this mustang was designed by italians who obviously understand how to maintain the traditional lines of a car while still keeping it fresh and not too retro.

Ford and GM's previous design strategy? Make the cars look as retro as possible, which is lame IMO. If I want a '67 mustang then that is what i'm going to buy. This mustang is a real piece of work...I hope Ford OKs the production of such a design.

This is such European take on an American design, but doesn't make it better. We all have opinions, and my take is if this was an American design house, the odd shoulder, strange proportions and the pinched mid section along with the large front over hangs would be deemed unacceptable. The G man is a design master, I've followed him since I was in my early teens, but obviously he didn't have a hand in this like he did in the orginal Lexus GS concept or the most recent Ferrari birthday concept. I'm not of the opinion that everything European is great.

Italian designer are always coming up with great looks. American designers RARELY do. If the Big 3 want their cars to sell, why don't they hire Italian designers??

I haven't owned an American car since my first... a 1960 Studebaker, but if Ford builds this Mustang, I'll have to get one!!

The back of the Mustang is uglier than the back of the Mercedes S-CLASS

the mustang, from every angle except the rear-man it is ugly(the rear). everything else...priceless

could you ever see yourself driving either? they have so much more style than any human being that it would feel intimidating driving either.

Agree the Mustang looks better, though I think the rear lights on the concept still need work.

MMM... it sure is nice to have to make a decision liek this! I think I'd ultimately have to go with the Camaro, as it isn't offensive from any angle and looks reasonably good from all. The much-hated rear of the Ford turns me off. I don't like the exaggerated rear haunches on the 'Stang, either; give me slime and "edgy" any day.

Oh Please! Ford is never going to produce anything close to this styling exercise. They'll announce some "styling cues" such as that metallic orange paint or the thinner grill opening or the swatch of black on the hood. The Camaro will probably roll of the production line much closer to the original showcar than this Mustang. Too Bad.

I love this mustang only thing I'd change is...
1. get rid of the horse hair on the seats (accept for the horse emblem) and replace with same leather.
2. Add a rear lip spoiler smoothed into the body starting at top of rear quarter pannel following the taillight lines and across rear decklid.
lip spoiler would be about 3-5" long and have a low slope (but high enough that it's functonal) so it would overhang slightly shadowing top tailight portion.
I think that would complement the rear view as what is makeing the rear view look "ugly" to some is it's accualy just something missing.
If FORD was smart they would start following through on producing there concepts.
silly not look at chrysler!
Ford concepts have always been awsome they just need to produce them.
And keep them very close to the concept, instead of letting other manufactures steel there ideas mainly GM/chev. & Toyota!
