Porsche to buy Audi, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Bentley?
Porsche has moved to become the largest shareholder of the German giant Volkswagen group, and is now tipped to be attempting to spin-off the Audi brand from the consortium so that the sports carmaker may acquire the luxury brand’s shares by itself. Porsche is understandably being very tight-lipped about the issue, but many analysts have acknowledged the potential that could be gained from such a reorganization.

If the merger occurred, Porsche together with Audi would be able to sell more than a million cars annually, with a higher yield than either Mercedes or BMW. This would leave Volkswagen Group consisting only of VW, Skoda and Seat, which would still maintain an annual output of four million cars but with much lower margins. It would also enable Audi to make the final push to unseat BMW and Mercedes as the premier German carmaker.

I think many in the Audi camp think VW holds Audi back unintentionally via corporate policies. Porsche is much more focused. The same issue hampers Lexus as well.

This would be fabulous! Wow! I can't wait to see what the BMW kids have to say...

Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti. Quite a force to be reckoned with. Like PlanoA4 said, VW really does hold Audi back more than it should. This would help, so much- not only would they have more focused brand builders, but their cars would be "rebadged Porsches" and they'd have a different marketing team (hopefully).

Best of all, VW wouldn't be included, so it would neither dilute the Porsche brand or continue to base Audi products on their platforms.

If you believe that Porsche would take good care of Lamborghini and Bugatti you are crazy - they'd probably move to shut them down in order to reduce competition with the Porsche line of vehicles.

They've already shelved the proposed "cheap" Bugatti roadster.

Hey maybe Porsche could buy Aston Martin and shut that down too.

I've always felt this was the game plan. We'll have to wait and see. With Audi switching to their new platform it seems like a break would be much easier. Also, all info I've read about the next generation Bentleys suggests that they will drop the VW steel frame and use the next gen A8 platform as well as the ASF. If Porsche can pull this off it will own the most exclusive auto group ever.

Wow, when will this VAG and Porsche saga end. Whoever buys whatever its still the same thing! It will not be the same as being independantly owned like BMW is...I really wish that BMW would buy out Audi and be done with it...Bwahaha...just kidding Audi guys...the mediocre engineering always allows BMW to push farther and look better, THANKS!! :)

Wow, you're another a$$hole idiot.

I'd rather be owned by Porsche than be on my own. IMO.

It's funny, because I don't remember the last technological innovation BMW has come up with... Audi has contributed much to the car industry, as well as Mercedes. BMWs may have great handling, but aren't even close when it comes to engineering or technology.

You might be able to speak to technology from an innovation stand point but engineering. Come on BMW is known for their great engineering. I dont even have to argue about that. Any objective person can see that for themself.

Handling is different from engineering. Engineering is technology, ENGINES- and there's no way in Hell that BMW would be able to get 420hp out of an NA V8, unless the new M3 proves me wrong. But they need 0.6 more liters than Audi to get 10 more horsepower (A8 vs. 7 Series, Q7 vs. new X5, A6 4.2 vs. 550i).

Their straight six is a perfect engine (330i and 335i), but the 328i/325i? Not so much. The 2.0T Audi uses is a lot more fun.

I am sure that you are aware that the BMW M engines get at least 100 hp per liter. So with a four liter engine it wouldn't be hard to get 20 more hp.

Yeah so bad, that Audi is using one identical to it on their flagship model, the R8. The pos DSG can't even be considered a good innovation by them idiot, they didnt MAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

BMW's ZSG will be innovated by BMW however. So please stop the ignorance.

P.S. The ZSG isn't 100% going to replace the SMG yet..if and when there is a SMGIV or ZSG M, it will most likely be a hybrid SMG and Dual clutch gearbox.

this is where you begin to like the lexus fans more. at least they like audis and don't call them mediocre.
one thing bmwreplicat, how come bmw doesn't make the ultimate driving machine?
and you're obviously forgetting the many bad bmws that have come out over the years, z3, x3, 3er compact, 2002 7 series?
not only has bmws exterior styling been ruined by an idiot, the interiors have taken a bettering, becoming a mish mash of randomly scattered buttons and dials (even with the awful idrive)

You think that the Z3, X3 compact and 7 were bad, thats your opinon all alone.
I liked the Z3 looked nice. The X3 is not my taste outside. The compact were an nice pratic car, even the design was nice, at least it did not look like a box, like the golf, A3 and so on. The 7 series is a car that stand out, it really got this high class look.
And this points are mine.

Who cares about which premium carmarker is the biggest?

All i want is that different car markers make product that does not look the same, drives in different ways, so that i allways can find a car for my need.

My need for the time is BMW, the only one i feel drives the way i want it.

the z3 looked nice, but as fars keeping up bmws reputation as drivers car, it wasn't too great. and when they offered it with a 1.8....not so great. i like the M-coupe version of it loads though, or the m roadster.

I think it would be great if Audi is owned by Porsche. Then VW can go on its own and try to become a luxury marque. We all know they'll fail though. But then their failure wouldn't drag down Audi too.

But add the 5 series to the list of bad BMW's.
Yes, its very fun to drive (which is why i have it)
But electrical problems are starting to be annoying (2004 model 67,860 miles) And the styling is not as good looking as I had once thought it to be.
Interior isn't that great, compared to the A6 and E350.

Nonsense...BMW may make some poor choices at times, but 5 cars in nearly 60 years...c'mon thats all you could do. There have been cars plenty worse than those you named. And each and every one of the cars you have named have sold more that any audi model..lol what does that tell you.

PS. All young adults with realistic career goals (no dreamers that want Ferrari's, etc.) don't aspire to have and Audi one day...they aspire for a BMW or and MB, PERIOD.

and since i class pretty well as a young adult, and i do want an audi, i think that proves your argument wrong.

There are plenty of young professionals noticing Audis. At my son's school, for instance (middle school), one of his younger teachers was looking at small sedans. She leased a new A4 2.0T. When she drove up to a pupil's house to tutor, the parent said, "Wow... I can't believe she has that CAR!"

Hmm. Depends in what market. In China, the A6 outsells all the BMWs combined. In Germany, Audi is a clear sales leader- as well as all of Europe. BMW, Mercedes and Audi sales are very close worldwide. All hover at about 1,000,000 per year.

Actually, the recent survey of 100 American self-made millionaires (not trust fund babies or people born into money) revealed that the one car that was most commonly owned by all of them was a truck, and specifically, a Ford F150. Go figure.

Do I have a BMW? Yes (as well as a Toyota and Lexus),but am I a millionaire? Nope. Maybe I should trade my BMW in for a truck ?

S4 cabriofoxone, what do you mean "if that happens the A1 will not be based of a VW at all", the A1 is in the works for a 2009 launched based on the polo platform and will be built at the VW Brussels plant, a recent move by the new VW CEO Martin Winterhorn. In fact I have seen your post on the A1 post on this website, the facts are that Audi must share platforms with VW, they have a new platform for the new A4, A6, A5 and A8, but they need more cars in order to sell more than a million cars they have to rebadge the polo, Tiguan, Golf and jetta.
