Volkswagen Tiguan Concept makes world debut at LA Auto Show
Volkswagen has unveiled its compact 4x4, the Concept Tiguan, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and has announced that the first examples of the SUV will be delivered to customers by the end of next year. The first news of the Tiguan’s development came with the debut of Concept A in Berlin earlier this year. This was followed by the naming of the model in July, the result of a poll of more than 350,000 readers of magazines of the AutoBild group. This latest development in Los Angeles takes the Tiguan one step closer to production and hints strongly at how the final version could look.

Maintaining the ‘baby Touareg’ appearance of the Concept A, Concept Tiguan makes a bold styling statement. At 4.4 metres long, 1.85 m wide and 1.69 m high, it is very similar in size to the Touran compact MPV (4.4 m, 1.8 m, 1.6 m). Klaus Bischoff, who was responsible for the exterior design of the car said: ‘It was very important for us to have the car appear powerful and muscular. For us that was a higher priority than anything else. An off-roader needs a long hood and an upright position. That lends the vehicle self-assuredness and power.’

Wow! Much better than I thought. Very chiseled, almost rugged. Cool. Maybe this will turn out to be an X3 competitor, and not as much a RAV4 competitor.

But that would, again, be a car that competes with an Audi (Q5)... so, maybe not.

X3 competitor!? S4. Please, anyways, the toureg and the q7 are sooo similiar. Plus, the interior of this thing looks a little dinky with the orange stitching- i guess if ur going for the sub-21 crowd then its ok. I wanna see wat type of engine this has and if it can beat the 269hp of the rav4

in europe this will appeal to the 25-35 crowd, and i think this orange detailing will go. car makers don't really bother marketing cars to under 21s, they simply can't afford it.

IT'S A CONCEPT. Besides, if the Touareg and Phaeton are any indication, VW is quite capable of making an attractive high-end car. The X3 is no work of art- critics hate it. It won't be hard for most companies to overtake it. BMW only has to TRY when they redesign it.

The Touareg and the Q7 are not similar, for many reasons.

#1: VERY different looking. Q7 is much more modern and elegant; way cooler inside and out (well, Touareg has a great interior too)

#2: Q7 has a third row. Touareg doesn't.

#3: Q7 is selling well. Touareg doesn't.

#4: Q7 doesn't have off-road gear. It's more of a big crossover, like the GL and X5. Touareg and Cayenne do.

You could've just as easily said that the Q7 is too much like the Cayenne. People overlook that it's also based on a Porsche, just to bash it.

Exactly how I thought it was and is going to look in production. I knew that the Tiguan would look nothing like the Concept A. That concept only had the dimesions and a possible engine. I posted possible photoshops that look much like this concpet several moths ago. Looks great BTW.

I agree, this is the Golf Plus interior from Europe. It is a bit old and doesn't look VW spec. I sure hope that VW either puts a regular Rabbit/GTI interior or puts the next generation Rabbit/GTI interior. The leather doesn't really work either. This is the only "problem" with this concept. So in fact this concept is very much production ready as it has a production interior, something unseen on concepts.

Well considering the Phaeton didn't sell at all and Im pretty sure is discontinued in America and you just said urself the Toureg isn't selling well, S4, then VW cannot make a highend car. They may look highend, that doesn't mean it is. So let bring the Tiguan back down to the peaseant level where the Rav4 and CR-V are, and leave the X3 and ACURA RDX (2.3 turbo with 240hp and 260lb) in the skies where they belong. Maybe when audi comes out with their q5 or whatever. silly rabbit, ha no pun.

VW might be able to drop the 3.6 FSI V6 with 280 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque into the Tiguan, that pulverize the RDX. The 3.2 liter V6 is more likely with 250 hp and 235 lb-ft torque. I am excited about the diesel that power the concept. Very nice fuel economy with great torque.

Like most Hocuras.
Thats my opinion.
I'd definately take a Lexus or Infiniti over an Acura.

Excuse me? I love Lexas and Infiniti, in fact the Infiniti FX is my favorite SUV ever! And you cannot tell me that this...."tiguan"....will be able to compete in the same league as the Acura RDX even if you don't like it. Thats ignorance.

I like the Tiguan AND the RDX. But he's right, this will be more of a CR-V killer, and the Q5 will be the grim reaper for the RDX.

VW is most definitely on par with Acura as far as luxury is concerned.

It's not because VW is luxury, but Acura's really not in league with BMW, Audi, MB and Lexus yet.

vw often thing above their station, in europe, there is a bit more prestige in having a vw badge instead of say a toyota one. the golf was always the small car of choice for rich city dwellers, but the A3 has taken that, but vw doesn't want to lets its crown go, as seat and skoda compete below it, which vw owns. so thus, they have to position themselves a little higher.

VW's are nice. No doubt about it.
But they are supposed to compete with Toyota.
Although some models compete more with Tier1/2 makes.

I think the Tiguan will be below the X3/RDX price but above the CRV/RAV4 pricing.

With a different interior the Tiguan will be awesome, it is already great. Of course some interesting engines will help as well.

just to say, if vw offer a v6, it will be the only one it its class with one (in europe). we don't get any v6 rav-4.
