There seems to flurry of activities with the 7 series- or maybe it's just me.

The Mercedes S550 presents tough competition, so BMW had better get its design act together! However there is insufficient information from the test mule to know how similar the next 7 series will be compared to the current model.

Also is it possible that the vehicle photographed is, under the camouflage, actually the planned smaller Rolls Royce

It's not. The camouflage isn't heavy enough to disguise a Roller to look like THAT. If it was, this Rolls-Royce would be about the size of a Honda Civic.

BMW better bring it on if they want to compete with the S550!

its got a super-long bonnet, the proportions now look good. i hope it looks nice, i always feel the 2002 7 series didn't live up to the previous model, which i loved.

This segment, like the 3 Series class, is about to heat up. New 7 Series and new A8 come out within a year of each other, and I assume the new XJ (this could be impressive) will come out around then, too.

I agree on quality, however I like the design. I mean something must have been right for Mercedes to implement the design into their s550, considering the s-class has been a benchmark for luxury for quite some time.

I hope they make the interior better than the current one. Also a better quality.

What the hell does M6 have to do with anything? Smarten up. This is about the 09' 7 Series.

Can't tell much about this look but the size looks about the same as this. Perhaps it's a refresh of the current refreshed 7 Series which started production in 02. But then they said it's got a new platform would that it's a completely new car? IMO no.. They can still change the platform but still keep the current look and change a few cues on it's body work. I don't know BMW has confused the heck out of me with all these updates with this 7 Series.

i'm pretty sure its an all new car, as cars are (nearly) always replaced at 7 years old. s class was, a8 was and will be, i'm sure this will be too. i think this car will eb sportier than the current one, which IMO is a bit too splodgy. leaner and meaner, please.
but disaster! some one hit our 7 series! and 3 other cars in my road! we heard the crash, woman was driving (drunk) having argument with husband, he grabbed wheel, hit our car, bouced off, hit the next car but one, smashed into the car after than and then spun (only 90 degress) and hit the car after that! 2 2 cars are written off, our car had a chunk of the rear wheel ripped off! and its all scratched.....
but the police were following the car anyway, so the driver and passenger were arrested immediately. but we cant drive our car...

oh would that count as a problem on a JD power survey? :P

I will gaurantee (just like autopies did with the s-class) the new 7 will kill the current S-class. In better terms, murder the S-class.

I've driven the new S550 and also have driven the 745li. The Mercedes looks much better in the interior department and a slightly better with the exterior (750li). Its just that the driving dynamics of the 745li blew me away-the mercedes not so much.

you are right, the new 7 will become top of its class for a year, then the a8 will take over, the the XJ (well maybe) then the LS, and the cycle starts again.

BMW should start from scratch.

a more supple ride and higher quality interior are all the 7 series needs to beat the s class as it's cheaper.

once again I agree on quality, however a more "supple" ride may work both ways. Remember high amount of "road feel" is what created many 7-series supporters to begin with, differentiating from the soft supple rides of Lexus and Mercedes.
