By the way, I think it's a neat feature to use. If the cars come with a harddrive storage device, it just ups the ante by allowing the consumer to purchase media that can be stored onto it, i.e. music albums or movies for the rear passengers.

I do agree though, utilizing the idrive computer to submit a secure payment would be more beneficial than a credit card reader.

that was funny. But of course new BMWs still have free maintenance, Audi's don't, so maybe Audi needs these more.

considering Audi USED to offer free maintenance and no longer does, and didn't lower the prices of their cars (Mercedes did the same thing for 2006 and newer models), I don't see how you can knock BMW for continuing to offer something Audi had but was too cheap to continue doing.

what makes me laugh is how many people will not pay 2 dollars for maintance. With the Audi lease they increase the residual if you get maintance for $550 so with the increase it is free or 2 to 3 bucks and 1/3 of people still don't want to pay extra.

There is no free it is included in the price with BMW not free. If it was free then the car would have to be free.

or you can pay your traffic ticket for driving distracted. Maybe Microsoft will start charging a user fee for the I Drive. Or you can pay for the new version software that will fix the bugs from the old verson

I see the credit card application as somewhat useful.

Have you ever been on a toll road and didn't have the cash to pay? I have...and it was very embarrassing. Paying toll road fees or even traffic tickets would be very helpful to some people. You can purchase movie tickets on the way to the movies and eliminate a long wait in the lines. This service can be useful if done right.

Ooo...here's a good use for the in-car credit card gadget...

Say you're on that unnamed drive and you're looking for a "date". If she (or he) has a PayPal account, you don't have to worry about being seen exchanging cash at the window or in the car before the service is rendered.
