Audi has fitted the Audi A3 with its new 1.8 liter TFSI engine, a development over the 4-cylinder FSI engine. The new 1.8 TFSI engine for the Audi A3 allows the advantages of petrol direct injection and turbocharging. The engine gives the car the ability of higher output and performance while reducing fuel emissions. How powerful is it? I assume about the same as the outgoing engine, because they wouldn't want to outdo the more expensive 2.0T.

It has 160 HP and 220nm i believe,

taht's 10 more horses then the outgoing 2.0 FSI.

i like audis a lot...but i think this is the stupidest thing they have done... they have a 2.0T which is a really good motor.. why would they invest money to make a 1.8T...why not just lower the price of the A3 2.0T... or even better sell 2.0T with a tuned chip right away...

BECAUSE THIS ISN'T FOR AMERICA, IT'S FOR EUROPE.

Numbskull.

THEY THINK THE 2.0T IS A BIG ENGINE FOR A HATCH.

I am sure Audi did not spend much money to make this engine. In Europe there are usually around 7 engine options while in America 1 or 2 so this is common.

you're right. ie with the a3 there are 8 engine options over here, from 1.6 to 3.2.
1.6, 1.6 fsi, 2.0 fsi, 2.0tfsi, 1.9tdi (103hp), 2.0 tdi (138hp), 2.0 tdi (167 hp), 3.2 v6.
but with 160 hp, that will probably replace the 2.0 fsi, and it brings up the hp to just below the 2.0tdi.

BimmerFan,
Audi's are getting better, and yes some of them look bad like the S4 Convertable and this A3. But most of their cars look nice if you're into more feminine looking cars. So don't hate too much cause Audi fans are fighting an unbeatable war with the real german car makers. Instead feel bad and give them sympathy as I do.

Oh, I was thinking of replying to your backhanded S4 Cabriolet / A3 bashing, but then I realized you were a fanboy when you said "Audi fans are fighting an unbeatable war with the real german car makers."

We don't need you on this site.

I'm just so glad there's an Insideline with normal people.

even you can't lie that the S4 Cab is feminine, come on now M3 convertable or S4 Cab and that's not bashing that's just stating fact. Look i'm saying audi's are getting better and you know more than anyone this site has soo many people who bash on everyone else and put the audi on a pedestal. Your definition of normal is someone who drives an audi, I'm happy with saying the 3 germans, bmw mb and audi all have their strenghts against eachother but knowing how the people on this forum are especially the audi lovers no one will agree to that. So yeah you do need me on this side and it's not bashing its productive criticism.
