Two World Premieres for BMW at the LA Auto Show

MW today unveiled two world premiere vehicles during its press conference on the occasion of the Los Angeles International Auto Show. The first premiere was the new BMW X5. The new BMW X5 grows in size and luxury yet further improves upon the driving dynamics that made the first iteration of the X5 such a success. The new X5 will be available with an expanded array of available options - one of which is a third row, seven passenger seating option. The new X5 is now on sale in the USA. The second premiere was the new BMW Hydrogen 7, the world's first hydrogen-drive luxury performance automobile. The Hydrogen 7 - which has fulfilled all of the criteria of BMW's rigorous product development process - will be built in a limited series and will be driven by selected users in the US and other countries in 2007. The Hydrogen 7 is based on BMW's familiar 7 Series model and is equipped with an internal combustion engine capable of running either on hydrogen or on gasoline.

I built the new X5 3.0si online, and I was very tempted to load it up. That car has some of the coolest features, some things you wouldn't even find in a 7 Series! And its looks, inside and out, are flawless. The interior, if they lifted it into the 5 Series, will give them a sales boost on its own.

Even not loaded, but with some cool options that I'd want, would put it up to $61K. Not too horrible, considering a Q7 we would've gotten (albeit a 4.2, and not a 3.6) would've been about $65K.

For a winter car, probably. I don't need a 4.8i (gas-guzzler) for a car that I'll be using one season a year. My son will be taking the A3, but this is still a ways off.

My wife will have the A8 and my son will have the A3, so don't think I'm leaving Audi. However, I might have to get a 911. (-;

For a winter car, I can't choose between this and a rumored 335xi coupe... that would be sweet.
