Ferrari: No Dino, No Cheap Ferrari

Ferrari: No Dino, No Cheap Ferrari
Ferrari today at the LA Auto Show killed rumors of the company building a cheap Ferrari called Dino, which has been rumored for a couple of months now. A transcript from General Manager Amedeo Felisa reads “There have been rumors about a Dino. I want to take this opportunity at the Los Angeles Auto Show to say that we are not developing a “cheap” Ferrari. Our ideal is to design and continue to perform in doing and manufacturing top level cars, high performances, and this is what we will continue to do.” We’re sure this news hurt a lot of you.

Good. All the premium brands owned by other companies have tried to go down market in search of higher sales numbers...at least one brand recognizes the market for vehicles not of high volume but of our dreams...never to be available to the masses but always a tease...that's the point of a ferrari, to make one easily available is to kill the point of owning one in the first place

Well I don't consider a 170 Grand Bentley GT a car that's easily available or affordable. By Bentley's standards that is a high volume vehicle (taking into consideration that it's in the ultraluxury class)

They're probably intimidated by the Cayman and 911, along with others. But it is a shame. The Cayman is really the new Dino, even has some Ferrari-esque lines, even though it may be heresy to mix brands up like that.

What Ferrari can;t do is compete in the lower segment as people in the Cayman/911 bracket actually drive these vehicles on a daily basis. Sadly a Ferrari at this price point would not offer the reliability of it's German counterparts; people who have today's Ferraris are not relying on them as a primary vehicle. They are special and for occasional driving. To maintain the aura of the brand they cannot afford to make a downmarket move...
