Ford Sales down for November 10%

Ford Sales down for November 10%
Ford Motor Company’s dealers delivered 182,259 vehicles to U.S. customers in November, down 10 percent compared with a year ago.

November car sales were 3 percent lower than a year ago, reflecting lower deliveries to fleet customers. Sales to individual retail customers were up reflecting higher sales for the company’s new mid-size sedans (Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ). Fusion was up 66 percent, Milan was up 29 percent and MKZ was up 83 percent. These 2007 models feature standard side-air bags and available all-wheel drive.

Overall, truck sales were down 13 percent, but the company's all-new, full-size sport utility vehicles (Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator) posted higher sales. Expedition sales were up 14 percent and Navigator sales were up 65 percent.

Ford is the first of the big 3 to bite the dust. No exciting cars, no direction. Who will they steal some sales from? Toyota, BMW, the Koreans. Good luck!

BMW? What?

Sad for Ford... I'm getting sick of hearing all the bad news.

Ford should do a deal with Hyundai and with Nissan/Renault to get a much larger range of small vehicles quickly into Ford showrooms; and to get utilization for its North American production facilities.

Oh, some of you didn't read this...

Ford only lost in fleet sales. For normal consumers:

"Sales to individual retail customers were up reflecting higher sales for the company’s new mid-size sedans (Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ). Fusion was up 66 percent, Milan was up 29 percent and MKZ was up 83 percent. These 2007 models feature standard side-air bags and available all-wheel drive. "

If Nissan can turn it around then so can Ford. Ok, maybe not.

If they merged with GM and flushed out all the dud product lines (which is most of them), laid off (paid out) the rest of the deadwood union workers, poached a few execs from Toyota and Honda, they might be able to pull through without a chapter 7.

Let us not neglect S4cabriofoxone's comment. Ford INCREASED their main sedan vehicle sales significantly. They did this with retail, not fleet sales. Ford and GM have both been trying to ween off of fleet sales (which they've both been doing). Lets not forget that Ford's #1 fleet sales vehicle was the Taurus, whose production was recently halted.

But doing well with the Fusion and horribly with the Ford 500 is not good enough Ford!

All I know is American Cars need to get their acts together, because we've been getting our butts kicked for too long in the car market. We should pray for them, it helps.

Ford's sales will spike and drop month to month, but the long term viability of their company is at risk.

Ford/GM are in serious trouble. Their stock is junk and they're mortgaging their assets to fund a massive buy out of employees. Think about this: Here's a company that has to bribe people to quit; it's actually cheaper to pay people to "get lost" than to keep working.

It's going to take more than one or two cars that sell well to pull Ford out of the ditch. And GM isn't far behind.

I can't think of a single, interesting Ford product, except the 500 hp shelby mustang or the Ford GT that I would want to own, and for the money, I don't think I'd buy either one.
