Click on the thumbnails for large spy shots. I think it looks very nice, and it will also have plenty of space in the rear.

That's now how the side window will be shaped- they'll be more tapered at the rear and less of a half-circle, making it more coupe-like and distinctive than the A6.

Interesting that they put the extremely boring standard A8 wheels on this pre-pro model. I hate the standard A8 wheels. I'd advise anyone to get SOMETHING else- even if you have to get the $4,000 Sport Package II that gives you 20" versions of the RS4's wheels. You have to really want the smoothness the 18s offer. Even so, the A8 with the 19" wheels my wife drove was incredibly smooth.

I'd like to see what the light clusters look like. We've seen the body- it's very nice. Now, let's see how it looks without the wrapper.

How does it make any sense to add this model (together with manufacturer, engineering and post-sales support) to the Audi portfolio. Is VAG so awash in profits that it can poor money down the drain?

Because they don't have a four-seat coupé (that can seat humans in the back). It's as simple as that. Why not? It's a 3 coupe competitor. There's demand for it.

roof line and rear window sort of resemble the new CL...i like it a lot.

My only request for audi is that they not have that dark plastic (if that is what it is) on the sideskirts and rear bumper like the Q7 has. I realize that this is most likely camo, but it scares me because that is one exterior feature of the Q7 that i do not like at all.

They got rid of that plastic after they updated the C2 A6 and very slightly revised the B6 A4.

But it will be too expensive, just like the A3. And it will lack demographic support, like the TT.

When will they learn that Audi 2-doors just aren't cool to enough Audi people [to buy/convince their wives to buy]? Audi people aren't interested in being seen drifting their arses out around corners with their ESP turned off, otherwise they wouldn't buy a quattro in the first place. That, and their wives would never allow such an atrosity. Otherwise, said wives would be married to a BMW owner, like me.

Audi people like to spend a little more money to have understated performance, even if it undermines hinders the performance. I don't know all the reasons yet. I think plenty of them though will go way out of their way to say very loud and clear "Hey look, I'm NOT driving a BMW!".

Sometimes non-comformity has a price though, and sometimes that price is not getting to drive a BMW. :-)

Hmm. I like the rest of your post a lot, but there is a market for it; the 3 Series coupe clearly shows that. There's also the slightly cheaper G35 Coupe and the rumored (but only rumored) IS Coupe.

It won't be too expensive, because there's already a price bracket for this segment, and they wouldn't overreach it.

Quattro is a performance technology as much as it is a safety technology. That's why the RS4 quattro is universally regarded as vastly superior to the M3, especially in terms of sports dynamics. That's why The R8 quattro supercar has already blown away the competition in recent reviews. And That's why the quattro rally car was disqualified from competing because it had an "unfair performance advantage".

Fact is the A5, with its rear-biased fifth generation quattro, will seriously threaten the BMW 3 series coupe sales, specifically because of its quattro performance advantage.

Again, quattro is a sports car technology that combines the benefits of rear-wheel drive (60/40 torque split), with the traction of all-wheel drive. That's why high-end Porsches and Lambos also use AWD. And Audi makes the world's best AWD system

I am sure the A5 will sell very well. Who doesn't want a high performance beautiful all wheel drive car.

BMW has the 3 coupe. MB has the CLK. Audi wants to compete with those brands so it makes the A5. This will also spawn the RS5, direct competitor to the M3.

Yes, something like it. But, like the new 3 Series, the coupe and sedan will have different identities. The A5 will come out first, however.

That car looks pretty high off the ground, and the side windows look very narrow. I personally am not to fond of this design, but im sure it will drive well.

Really, it does look like a Honda Accord coupe, it also has 2 doors.

Audi will struggle with this one unless they can get the price down to the 30-40k range and I really doubt that's going to happen.

I don't think purists want or care about quattro. It adds, easily, another 5-10k worth of hardware to the cost of the car, it upsets the weight distribution (nose heavy) and requires additional horsepower to offset the weight. More things purists don't like, and more things that drive up cost, making it less price competitive.

This market segment is about marrying high dollar GT touring with a purist’ roadster, ditching the soft top, which effectively turns a roadster like performance into a daily driver. Audi would be much better off starting off with a high end (not supercar) coupe (a la Mercedes CL, Porsche 928, BMW 6, Jag XK) because that demographic will foot 70-80k for a heavy, solid, fast coupe. Note that all of these cars are rear-drive.

Also note that other manufactures that offer AWD do not offer it in performance configurations (eg, BMW xi, Mercedes 4matic (E320/430 only), IS250 (not IS350), Cadillac STS (only in 6-cyl model). The only two cars out there that can make a competitive, mid-priced AWD performance cars are Subaru WRX and EVO, both have cut costs/corners in interior, build quality, refinement, and even these are 32-45k.

This segment is really a 30-40k range, with exceptions on the edges. If the A3 is upwards 40k already, I doubt they’ll be able to squeeze this into that price range while competing with the G35 coupe (low 30k). Audi can’t sell enough of them to bring the price down.

The only valid argument I hear about Audi being in this space is the RS5. But RS comes before S, which comes before A. Audi should just make an A4 coupe, and call it that, like the S4 Cab, with a hard top, and offer it in RWD.

An S4 RWD coupe would be an amazing value. They could sell it less than the S4 AWD sedan, drop at least 3 hundred pounds, get the front/rear weight balanced, and would give the M3 something to really worry about. Audi won’t do it. This “give me quattro or give me death” thing is hurting them big.

AWD is what makes Audi different. You're not going to see them dropping it anytime soon- and that's a good thing. BMW purists may not want it, but Audi purists sure do. Take my word for it.

It's not going to be over $40,000. The new 335i coupe is $42,000, and, in traditional Audi fashion, this will be about $40K flat for a base V6 model.

They are going to make a 6 Series competitor in a few years, apparently, called the A7, or maybe even an A9 (A8-style coupe).

Again, AWD performance cars is what makes Audi different. When BMW and Mercedes zig, Audi zags.

The A3 is not $40,000! I'm sick of hearing this! A normal A3, out-the-door 2.0T DSG, is about $31,000- or how much mine was! It has xenons, Open Sky, leather heated seats, 17" rims, garage opener, a good stereo (the standard stereo), and a power driver's seat. No one is actually going to have an A3 over $40,000- it just doesn't happen!

RS comes after S, which comes after A! THIS IS GOING TO BE THE A4 COUPE! WOW!!! The A5 is going to be the two-door version of the A4!

They're not switching to RWD. They surveyed executives, long-time buyers and dealerships- and they all said that it would alienate their FWD customer base.

The M3 already has something to worry about, and it's called the RS4. The new RS5 coupe, as Anim8or said, will be an outright, two-door M3 competitor, and it will just be a better-driving version of the RS4. You don't need RWD to beat the M3; AWD is faster around the track.

Oh, actually, the 335i coupe is $40,600- and that's standard with such niceties as the harmon/kardon stereo system and xenons, I think.

The A5 will be less. Think $37-38K for a V6 version. Nicely equipped, it should come in at about $44,000. Not bad considering a CLK350 is about $57K with the same features.

I am sure Audi will price the A5 competitavely. It will have great styling, luxury interior and plenty of power. Will be worth every penny for those that can afford it.

You must have see through vision as this one is covered up by a lot of camo. I am sure it will look very nice when it is production ready. The R8 looked pretty good while in camo, but is amazing now that we have seen it without.

You just said this is what people "think" it will look like, so I assumed you posted a few photoshops.

You think the Nuvolari is boring? Are you out of your mind? It was one of the hottest concepts at the show when it debuted! People loved it!

wel its just so nice that most people now understand that these cars on auto spies are camos,,,quite a long time ago many people criticised the look of the cars on autospies because they didnt understand that they had camo and it wasnt the real look.
