2008 BMW X5 to get the 335i's Engine?

It would be right on top of the RR Sport- and even with the 260hp version, it's quicker. The Range Rover Sport weighs about 300lbs more.

Makes sense. But 300 hp 6 cylinder would put it very close to the 360 hp V8. Maybe too close for comfort.

This would be good though, then BMW would just have two engines in the X5, the turbo 3.0 liter and the 4.8 liter. BMW could do a few little things here and there and probably get more hp out of the 4.8 liter (improve intake / exhaust, engine control software, direct-injection (if it is not already there, I dont know if it is)). Doing this would streamline production for BMW.

My dealer told me the 335i engine is also planned for the 2008 5-series as well as the 2008 X5.

The 5 lineup would be 528i, 535i, 550i, M5 (not including xi's)

Plus BMW will have a new V8 on the market with the next 7-series, so expect in excess of 400hp

Yes, that would make sense. I don't know about a 400hp 7 Series (that would be a little much for what's supposed to be a LUXURY sedan), but it's obvious that they would put the 3.0TT in other models.

The Bi-turbo I6 engine will power the 1 series (135), 5 Series (535), X3 (3.5 si), and the X5 (3.5si).
There is also a bi-turbo 4.4 litre V8 delivering 400+ hp/400+ ftlbs Torque that will be be powering the following existing lineup:
1. 550
2. X5
3. 750.

MY2009 as the F10 or new BMW 5 series . So we will start seeing it in early 2008.
Mind you the new V-8 will also power the F01 (new 7 series) which will go into production in late 2008, hence the need to have in the 5,6 and X5 first.
Potential engine changes between 2007 and 2008 are:
535 with the Bi-turbo I6 to replace the 530. They will also boost the power of the engine by 2-3% (306-310) to give it the same performance on paper as the 335i.
X3 will see the same engine change as the 3 series.

550 may get the new engine next year, or will wait till 2008 to be sold as the MY2009 F10. Same thing with the 750.

Will they put the new 3.0 twin turbo diesel in the X5? Now that would be a good engine for an SUV.

This report is incorrect. I'm a member of X5world.com; there was no report of the 335i bi-turbo engine to be installed in the E70 X5. However, there has been a confirmation that the 335i engine will be installed in the X3 sometime during 2007.
