Is it time for a company to finally take the lead and offer a 'scissor-door' option on some models?
The Spies think there are a lot of customers who would step up and pay extra to get scissor-doors on some of their favorite models.

What got us thinking was the new Giugiaro Mustang we saw at the 2006 LA auto show.

What a great competitive advantage this would be for the company first to market with this option, on an affordable car like a Mustang or the new Camaro.

The question is would you pay extra for it and what would be the maximum you would pay to get them?

I would't
The novelty would wear off after a few days.

Hahaha...the Lamborghini Countach by Gandini had scissor doors and it was known mostly to be an ergonomic nightmare to drive. Wildly impractical for anything other then a design study.
Mostly due to the wieght of the struts needed to support it in its vertical ascent.

u know it must fully open so that places with low roof (i.e. garage) may made u trapped inside the car and no storage can be used thru the door pocket.

Why couldn't they just place the rearview camera somewhere at the rear of the car and completely eliminate from the side panel? And, if you need to backup, let the sensors guide you.

I think it is time for the formerly exotic feature to come out on new sportier vehicles...the question is who will be first and lead the charge. The SCION FUSE had scisssors and now this - who will break the ice?

Dumb concept all around. I think it even detracts from show cars. I mean, who wants to see a car with the doors open? But if you have those kinds of doors, you are constantly having to show them off. Lambo is the white trash of Italy anyway, and didn't they invent them?

My Honda NSX got LSD doors and the ladies seem to like it alot :-)
But then again i'm not from the US and my car looks rather special between all the boring 3 séries, E classes and A4's lol.
