Is the new Land Rover Freelander (LR2) a stud or a dud?

Why the heck would you even suggest the LAND ROVER LR2 is just a re-packaged Ford Edge?
LR2 is like a baby Range Rover Sport - sort of.
LR2 is a better vehicle than the BMW X3 and a better value and a sweet inline-6 Volvo engine. LAND ROVER LR2 also offers more prestige than the the X3 could ever have, if you're into that.
LAND ROVER LR2 is BASED on the EUROPEAN EUCD platform/architecture used in the Volvo S40 and European Focus (don't confuse this with the US Focus - Completely different) and Volvo led development of the EUCD platform to begin with. Land Rover used around 40 percent of this architecture for LR2.
Prices start at US $34K well equipped and US $40K fully loaded! That is a huge value over the BMW X3.

blueice4589, the Freelander came out in 1997 in Europe and was the first premium compact 4x4. When released in 1997 it instantly became the most popular compact 4x4 in Europe. Ford saw the success of the Freelander in Europe and copied it's formula and design, albeit less premium. Ford later purchased Land Rover and folded them into PAG with Volvo, Jaguar and Aston Martin. So the fact that Ford owns Land Rover and Freelander 1 and Ford's Escape look similar confuses many people.
Freelander 1 and Ford Escape share NOTHING! FREELANDER WAS FIRST TO MARKET YEARS BEFORE THE ESCAPE AND YEARS BEFORE FORD OWNERSHIP. FORD COPIED THE LAND ROVER FREELANDER NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

It shares nothing with the Edge. I do think that the asking price of 34k [40k loaded] is way to high.

Meh. I'm indifferent. It's better than the X3- but that's not much of a feat. I'd like to see the oncoming model rush (GLK, Q5, Infiniti IX, Lexus ??, VW Tiguan) before I give my opinion on this one.

Yeah S4, get your facts together. I think, like Audi, your overestimating your strengths.

While not sharing anything with the Edge, it does look similar to the new Ford Escape [no shared parts as well]. In the end the pricing is too high IMO for what you get.

What do you mean by that? Putting the Audi comment aside (Ha! Like Acura is a leading luxury car producer), when did I "overestimate my strengths"? I stated that the LR2 shares nothing with the Edge, and it doesn't. 001's line was misleading.

Our Range Rover Sport is $57K base. Ha!

what engine is that with? our RR sport has a 2.7 diesel as base, at around 70000 dollars.
