Top 10 Most Economical Cars in the UK

Just a few years ago, this list would have been rather less impressive. But it’s a mark of a car maker’s ingenuity that we now have a production car capable of nearly 70mpg, offered for less than £9,000. We had no problem filling our top 10 with 60mpg+ cars, either. So, which takes your eye?

NB: All MPG figures are in UK mpg, multiply by 0.83 to get US mpg. 68 UK is roughly 56 US

how true this is. i mean, yeah the concept of small cars seems cool, but imagine an h2 losing control and hitting that thing.

i had a tahoe lose control and clip me on the freeway, making me hit the center divider on the 101 east freeway going 90mph in my old car. i was glad to be alive. car was totalled.

cell phone in one hand, lipstick in another, who's got the steering wheel? gotta love los angeles.

i will never again buy a car without looking at the safety features.

Nope, the article states that the less powerful gasoline engine uses more fuel. Quite a bit more fuel.

113, is that Toyotas claim, if it is expect about 65 -70 in real driving conditions, the existing ones stuggle to achieve much over 40, there is a much better hybrid design , not Japanese, and less complicated than the Prius, lighter more efficient, nicer to drive and expected to be capable of 200 mpg using available technology, also far more capable of medium speed cruising where the Prius is useless, in the meantime for around town use there is a much cheaper and greener option and that is a purely electric car

Prius is a godawful conscience car - its claimed mpg figures are criminal. Until someone creates one worth driving i'm sticking with my BMW 320d. Efficient Dynamics mean I get around 40-55mpg, have lower CO2 than most American cars and it drives better than any Prius.

Citroen are outselling the Aygo, and PSA should be commended for creating some of the most economical engines in the world - in a recent test of City Cars, the top 5 most economical cars had PSA engines.

Also the VW Chico looks set to claim 141mpg!!!
