It appears that this might be it! I agree that this might be the ultimate car. You can drop the top and here in the northeast have a real hardtop in the cold weather. The only thing it might not have is AWD. I can live without it but this might bring the Ultimate Driving Machine to a whole new level. Not to mention it is not BUT UGLY like the M5!

Well they're obiously not going to put the badges on, because they don't want people to know it's an M3......

lol...that's either a PhotoShop.
Well, whatever it is, it's NOT a M3 conv.
It may well be the new 335i conv. since M3 have gills on the side as well as badges and side skirts.

not a pshop buddy...the prototype M3 coupe that has been spied has also been lacking the side vents, and this car has the same fake bonnet that the coupe has been sporting. Also it has the same wheels as the silver m3 that was spotted a couple weeks ago.

My only concern- what about the added weight of the hardtop drop top? If the M3 coupe sports the carbon fiber roof panel, won't there be a large increase in weight once the hardtop converible roof is thrown on there, as compared to a cloth roof?

nevermind, i should read the article before i open my mouth...i hope they do produce this car with a CF folding hardtop...THAT would be awesome! But very expensive, I assume.

Carbon fiber at the roof makes more sense than any other place in the car because it's at the tallest place (highest center of gravity), and brings not just an overall weight reduction, but lateral inertia is greatly reduced, 5-10 times the static weight savings, depending on how high from the ground and how hard the corner is.
Very nice looking. I can't imagine a quad exhaust unless it's an M. And BMW doesn't like hard droptops because of their weight, but carbon fiber might do the trick.
And it does look like this roof is a composite; the sheen doesn't match with the body as you can see in the rear picture.
Cool cool!
BMW really does a top notch job in bringing excellence in areas that normally would explode R&D budgets of mainstream manufactures. In carbon fiber designs like this, it's not something you can engineer once and cookie-cutter slap it on every car in the lineup. If you don't have a very well executed engineering core, you don't even get try something like this.

Like I said, this looks very nice. I am surprised, this particular angle makes the 3 series not bad at all. But the RS4 Convertible is a very beautiful car. It is available now, it has an amazing engine, great handling. When the BMW M3 convertible comes out in 2008 or 2009 is will challange the RS4 convertible (used as they won't be on sale by then).

Oh, c'mon, it's SO easy to see how scared of Audi you are!
This is a BMW POST- nobody has mentioned the RS4! We're just admiring the M3!
But of course, you bring up Audi, because you're insecure!
People who would buy an RS4 over this would rather have an AWD sedan than a RWD convertible. Are you that oblivious?

not just that but hell rs4 convertible has to cost $80,000 im sure it is alot slower than any other performance car for the same money, at 66,000 base price for an rs4 that can barely out run a 38,000 335i sedan, the m3 coupe will blow away the rs4 convertible or not....and i doubt that it will jump to almost 70,000, when the current model starts at 48, even if it jumps 9,000 it still would be 10,000 cheaper than the much slower rs4

STOP. You and AmazingBimmer could very well be the same person!
"at 66,000 base price for an rs4 that can barely out run a 38,000 335i sedan..."
Hmm. You're using Audi's manufacturer estimate, and the 335i's FASTEST time in a road test. I love the 335i, but STOP.
The RS4, in its fastest test, has gone from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, over half a second quicker than the 3 Series coupe.
And even if it was slightly slower than that, you know the RS4 is still a lot more exhilirating.

Oh and- IT WAS THE 335I COUPE, NOT THE 335I SEDAN, DIMWIT. THE 335I SEDAN HASN'T BEEN TESTED YET.
And, obviously, it will be slower than the coupe. I'd be surprised if it broke five seconds.

WOW!!! Here in Blighty they have just released the Coupe 3 Series and it looks very pretty. There are shots of the Cab going about however I live near BMW distribution here in UK and have seen it and its worth the weight. The pictures are the next M3 as you can tell by the rear bumper and the 4 tail pipes. If you look to the link page below you will also see the front Bumper has a cover on with massive air ducts in it. The other give away is that it is sporting M5 wheels!! Cant wait...............

I am very disapointed with the look of the 3series convertables, expecialy from the back. I am disgusted with the profile and view from the back, the shape of the rear of the hard top and how it works (or does not work) with the rear deck just looks akward to me. Let me know if i am the only one who doesn't like the hard top they made for this car. I very much agree with BoLLeH. I can't help but think that those who really like this car are avid bmw fans who would drive around in a bath tub with a bmw logo and m3 fenders. Can't say i'm excited about this thing but i'll be sure to let you guy's know if my opinion changes after seeing this car with my own eyes.

S4.. .we are not the same person, but I too think the RS4 is a POS. Nose heavy slob built off a front wheel drive platform. is it awd? yes. is it any better than a proper rwd performance car with 10 time the street cred and exclusivity? hell NO!!!. Listen I really dont know why we are debating this.. the audi competes tihe g35 and lexus. theonly carsint eh 3 series league is the MB and porsche (i know differnt cars). the audi also does well against the similar fwd chevy impala, the lincoln MKZ and the new Ford Taurus replacement, the Fusion. so well done.. audi shoudl be proud of what they have accomplished. really proud!
